Woman accused of child cruelty maintains innocence

The attorney for a McDonough woman who, along with her husband, is charged with committing acts of cruelty on their two adopted children said his client is “shocked” by the allegations against her.

Deborah Williamson Dinkler, 41, was released from the Henry County Jail Friday on $100,000 bond — one day after her husband, 42-year-old Earl Thomas Dinkler, was released.

McDonough Police say the couple caused “excessive” and “malicious” pain to the children, ages 13 and 11, over a four-year period by forcing them to run laps in the back yard of their home and do other exercises that would result in the deprivation of food, or beatings, if left undone. .... My family and homeschoolers throughout our county know this family. We all believe they are being unjustly attacked by the neighbor, the police and DEFACs.

The two childern were adopted at an older age by this fine couple. For some reason, many adopted children have anger issues, and these two children have their share. For excercise, the Dinglers would have them run around the yard before breakfast. I watched the video, on the Atlanta news, of the neighbor and the police officer - who claimed this was the worse child abuse he had seen. I would sue both of them, if I were the Dinglers. If you believe there is child abuse, turn the family in, don't get on the news and blather your opinions. It might make you feel big and important, but it is destructive and wrong.

As for the officer, if making children run before meals and using a miniture or toy baseball bat (I would not do it, but it wasn't the full size bat the he made it sound like for the news) to spank with was the worse child abuse he has seen, then he doesn't get out much. Henry County has had horrible cases of child abuse; deaths, starvation, broken bones, neglect, etc. Where has this officer spent his service?

It does highlight the difference of “cruelty” meant when we were kids, versus what it means today.

I’ve made my children do P.T. before meals (and after meals, too). Back in the Dark Ages, when I was in public school, we even had to do calisthenics there ... and faced detention, flunking, or a trip to the grouchy Assistant Principal if we didn’t comply.

How times change.

...and to add insult to injury, this family probably makes the children *gasp* practice on musical instruments!

exactly.
I’m remembering what it was like at our gymnastics practices through the 70’s and 80’s.
Those coaches would be arrested today for abuse.

Parents who homeschool their children are a threat to state schools where homosexuality is taught to be ok. I believe that in the near future, homeschoolers are in for a horrific fight to keep their children homeschooled.

My junior high GYM teacher used to smack our bare butts with a plastic Whiffle Bat if our offense was egregious enough. Bent us over the ole pommel horse and everything. And that was in a public SCHOOL!

I can't even begin to tell you what my dad did to me if he found out I'd gotten a paddlin' in gym class ...

This is "child abuse" like the laughable incidents at Abu Ghraib were "torture." We've defined the terms down so low they're meaningless anymore.

I'm thinking this is something like, "If you don't do your exercise, you don't get dessert", and, "If you don't show some serious effort, I'm gonna whup your ass".

I wonder if it's too late to have Bill Cosby's parents pulled into court. From what I recall of his recordings, he got a lot worse than this.

Wow, run laps.

Isn't that a form of exercise sort of like the exercise you do in public school for Phys Ed or am I really behind the times. /sarc

Guess it would be better for the kids to become deliquents. /sarc

Maybe the woman next door will take them in and finish raising them.

My 16 year-old HOMESCHOOLED daughter runs at least a mile a day and does Tae-bo workouts frequently throughout the week. However, I can't be charged with child abuse, because she does it of her own volition! Oh, and she also knows which end of the gun to hold too. Guess I'd get failing marks as a good sheepish-socialist parent...

The lunatics are in charge of the asylum...

I thought such atrocities only occurred in a public school, or so many would have us think.

I am not going to say the family is right or wrong, it is not for me to decide.

I have a feeling some may home school for this very reason, not that I am saying any on here feel that way, but when I, as a teacher, hear no end of child abuse from the ones here on FR who choose to home school, I enjoy seeing articles like this one.

LOL!!

Our band teacher use to throw erasers at us if he caught us playing out of temp or hitting bad notes.

He had a special eraser for the drummer -with the kid’s name on it.

But...there were ‘bruises’ on both children. The nature and location of the bruises might be significant. I really don’t think punishment resulting in bruising is appropriate. Exercise is certainly appropriate. I hope this couple didn’t beat the kids.

All children have bruises on them.
Heck..I have bruises on me.

Is there a doctor involved here who declared them suspicious?

I remember coming back from taking my kids to play in the park one morning and saw the local jr. high kids huffing and puffing around the school track.

Or what about a few years back when my kids were at another playground. A school class came to the park. The kids had a time limit on how long they could eat, then their teacher was making them do drills through the playground equipment. "Go! Go! Go!" I heard their teacher yell. My oldest son couldn't understand why the kids weren't allowed to just play.

BTW, I'm abusive, too, I guess. My children run laps in the back yard also.

Eek! Bruises! I have four boys. They have all sorts of marks on them. Usually inflicted by each other.
