In a Socialist country (which we will be soon), only those with cash businesses and those "off the books" or on "tips" will be able to live half way decently. The FAIR tax will be excellent if Congress gets rid of the income tax LOL. How will they be able to resist continuing to tax the W-2 and 1099 tax payers?
No politician has ever met a tax they didn't like or couldn't subvert to keep themselves in office or their friends well heeled.

We have the best opportunity since 1913 to get the power out of the politicians hands and back into ours.
The FAIR TAX will bring a true freedom for us as individuals and put the power back where it belongs - in the hands of We The People.
But just damn - if WE aren’t willing to fight for it, we’ll never get the chance again.
And we wont deserve it.
Let's not lose sight of the fact that Mr. Will is correct about the transaction details: If a retail transaction for a house occurred and the sale price was $1,000,000, then the buyer would have to pay $298,700 to the federal government for the FairTax on that transaction.
Let’s tax at corporate rates all non profit organizations that have positive cash flows or capital gains in excess of current operating expenses. Between the universities and major charities that should cover the uninsureds and welfare.

Unless the XVI Amendment is repealed this is never going to happen. If the XVI Amendment is left in place some future Congress is going to pass legislation re-establishing an income tax.

Too bad the headline didn’t say “The people must demand the FLAT tax”. If former communist countries can implement it with no problem, why can’t the greatest economic power in the world do it?

I'm sorry. But imagining "paying the same price for something but having your entire paycheck to buy it" will be all that we do. If the author will lie about something this simple, how can he (or others) be expected to be trusted on any other point?
Do any Fair Tax supporters agree ith the author's statement? Where are the cries to "READ THE FAIR TAX PROPOSAL"?
When drug dealers, prostitutes, pornographers, and foreign tourists buy something today, they pay taxes (corporate, employee withholding, FICA, etc.) that are contained and hidden in the purchase price. The Fair Tax pulls them out and makes them visible.
What an illegal, for example, doesn't pay today is income tax. BUT, if we could somehow force him to pay that, he'd simply raise the price he charges for his service, meaning those who use his service (ie., us) would end up paying his tax for him.
Under the Fair Tax, the situation is similar. Let's see a show of hands of everyone who thinks the drug dealer will add the Fair Tax to the price of cocaine and pass that money on to the IRS. Ergo, there will still be cheaters.
Idiocy.....the Fair Tax would DESTROY RETAIL!! NO ONE will pay 24% tax on furniture, jewelry, etc.......a FLAT TAX is the best way to go.
I saw Bortz on C-span earlier, Fair Tax or the NATIONAL SALES TAX is as big a scam as the IRS.
It canibalizes all the finacial planning. Roth IRAs are useless and the tax paid becomes DOUBLE taxation.
WHO in the government decides our PREBATE?

FLAT income tax first THEN look to shift it to something else.
You also have to abolish property and local taxes.

Better than a Fair Tax is the Flat tax.
The people should demand the flat tax. This is an election gimmick.
