Why Senator Larry Craig is right!
TownHall.com ^ | 08.29.07 | Kevin McCullough

Senator Larry Craig is either incoherent or incompetent – or both. His press conference on Tuesday afternoon was exactly the wrong thing to do - on nearly every level. And I for one do not believe that most of his story holds.

Save this one item, when he stated clearly, "I am not gay!"

I'm sure there was no merriment whatsoever in his life the preceding number of hours up to the press conference.

If he meant that was "not homosexual" that too is also likely.

Homosexuality is not a state of defined being. Rather on the best science man has gathered we understand it to be a series of emotions, feelings, desires, choices, and most importantly behavior.

I thought it was weird when Craig called the incident a “failure”. But then, the whole press conference was weird.

There’s a lot about this story that just doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Who would’ve thought that airport restrooms are a big meeting place for gays? Seems improbable... I mean of all places, bathrooms are odd enough but airport restrooms are really busy places at all hours. How could anybody think they could do anything in there without being observed? It’s baffling, but obviously was a big enough problem for the police to set up an undercover operation to stop it.

But then I get to the police actions here. The “signals” the cop relayed seem pretty subtle to me. Not that it isn’t true and maybe the senator really was soliciting the cop... but all those “signals” are pretty close to things that could have completely innocuous explanations. Standing outside a door peeping and standing outside a door waiting for one to come open might be difficult to distinguish from inside the stall. And foot-tapping or reaching down below the stall might also happen for reasons that are more innocent.

Again... sure they appear now to be signals that are used by gays to hook up, but it would also be awfully easy to misinterpret and arrest somebody who was innocent.

Then: they’re going to go to court with with collection of odd signals even though there’s no overtly sexual activity or even any clear verbal communication taking place? It sure doesn’t seem like much. And then even more inexplicably they’re pleading these things down to a minor and non sex related charge. What good does that do? Isn’t the whole point of these “sting” operations to embarrass the perps and generate publicity about the operation so others will be discouraged from going there?

But to run it as a relatively minor “disturbing the peace” type thing, when that story runs in the paper it kinda takes the sting out of the sting doesn’t it?

Craig said he what he is not - gay.

He didn’t deny being bi-sexual? Hmmmmm. :>)

I retrospect I think it would have been better for him if he had not opened his remarks with “I want to thank you all for coming out today...”

How in hell does that happen? Most of the fools in Congress couldn’t get or keep an honest man’s job.

You are so right. They aren't responsible to actually do anything. They bloviate, pass around money and pass rules for the rest of us to follow. No one blames them when a bridge falls, trash is not collected, snow is not removed. Mayors and governors are held responsible far more than legislators, especially those all the way in DC.

Of course, for the last 6 years Pres. Bush has been blamed for anything big, like hurricanes. That will change instantly if a Dem gets back in the White House.

We have expectations, standards and accountability. That is why we want Larry Craig gone. The Left doesn't have those traits so they will happily put up with an adulterous President and a Congressman who ran a sex ring out of his apartment. Thank Heaven we're different. I expect a fellow human being to always do the right thing before God and I won't ever except the excuse "every one else does it." No - not every one else does it and God has destined people for greater things.

Unless the wife is really stupid, I’m pretty sure she knows her husband has been gay for a long time.

3 days? LOL, I hadn’t heard that.

Well, hopefully Haggard is no longer trolling for anal sex, and getting some kind of psyche/sexual mental help.

Same goes for this guy Craig, his denial is dangerous, who knows what he could do next.

These guys that crave gay sex are sick and need their loved ones to do what they can to get some help in self-disipline for their addiction.

We should get rid of the words “gay” and “homosexual” and define based on behavior.

The Centers for Disease control is interested in valid data, so it simply uses the expression “MSM - Men having Sex with Men.”

That’s a pretty fair description of the behavior they need to track so they can have accurate statistics.

Craig is guilty of having sex with men. The truth is that he’d obviously gone through these bathroom signals in the past.

He does this in a public bathroom.

He risks others (kids) seeing it.

And he’s stupid....thinks that public exposure won’t eventually catch up with him.

The final reason is reason enough to fire him.

I confess (and celebrate) that I don’t know much about these gay pickup signals, but I am not sure I see the real issue. When I was dating (if I can recall correctly) I tried to use much LESS subtle signals to try and convince women to have sex with me, and I would have done the same with a female police officer if I found her attractive. I don’t see how that is any sort of violation of law, unless money or coercion were involved.

I think the guy is likely a creep, but I don’t see what the criminal violation is. And if it IS a violation, you bar cruisers better watch your act.

Queer is bad enough, trolling around in public restrooms adds another layer of filth. How far would someone like this go, if they thought they could get away with it?
He obviously isn’t concerned with God seeing what he does.
If getting caught is the greatest restraint on your behavior, you can’t be trusted with anything.

I am comfortable with my conclusions because I have probably studied more of the scientific literature than anyone or almost anyone who posts here.

The so called “scientific literature” in education and social sciences is crap.

I don’t see how one can prosecute someone for these signals. Seems like free speech to me. Also, I have been hitted on lots of time withut anyone ever setting upa sting to protect me. I just said yes or no.

actually the real science does NOT point to genetics.

(even the 11th DCA had concede that when they upheld the FL ban on homosexuals adopting children)

I'm curious as to what similar arrests occurred in the last 3 months. I am suspicious of the officers report quite simply. The time frame is 3 minutes and putting a bag in front of you is hardly suspicious as well as foot tapping. JMO.
