He withheld exculpatory DNA evidence from the judge (who would have thrown out the case a year earlier).

All the statements that I made to the court, at the time I made the statements, I believed them to be true, Nifong Libby said.$500 for lying huh?
To: abb
Nifong also offered a unique theory about whose DNA it could have been. It could have come from anybody, Nifong said. She had a son, a very young son.
uh..........words...fail.

Nifong could face a $500 fine or up to 30 days in jail. That's hardly more than a pee-pee slap, said the bailiff.

One can only shudder in horror at what Nifong tried to do to three innocent men for personal gain. I think he should do 20 years in prison for what he did and as an example to other prosecutors who may act as Nifongs.

So the court agrees that he’s contemptible? Good news.

The judge testifying for the defense that it is OK for a lawyer to lie to the judge is an ex - prosecutor herself:
“The Honorable Marcia H. Morey has served the District Court bench from 1999. Judge Morey received her undergraduate degree from Millikin University in Illinois. She received a Masters in Teaching from Reed College and her Juris Doctorate from Northwestern School of Law. Prior to serving the District Court bench, Judge Morey was an Olympic swimmer and coach, journalist, and Assistant District Attorney for the 14th Judicial District. Judge Morey, an advocate for juveniles, is assigned to preside over this district’s Juvenile Treatment Court.” http://www.nccourts.org/County/Durham/Staff/District.asp

I couldn’t understand why she wasn’t charged either. You have some very good points. She should have to pay for what she did also. It always struck me as very strange that supposedly when she was fourteen, she accused several men of raping her. That case apparently fell through. But what I kept thinking of is that a rape is a horrible, traumatic event. How in the world could someone who was raped end up being a stripper, getting paid to take her clothes off for men? Hmmmm!

In California, I believe it is 82 minutes. However, the judge stipulated WHEN Nifong could leave the jail...exactly 24 hours to the minute after arriving. HA
