Losing his license is really nothing. He's always engaged in govenrment practice. Someone DEM will simply appoint him as an assistant where no license is required.
Take away his pension!! He is totally capable of working.
Afraid of removal? Are you kidding? He wanted off this case! I don’t think any of the judges in Durham wanted anything to do with it after it became so obvious that it was a hoax. By May — June at the latest — there was no question that this case would be dismissed. But none of those judges wanted to be the one who did it and alienate his black constituency.
And how did they get out of it? By getting Nifong to agree to the special designation, which cleared the way for a non-Durham judge to preside over this whole sordid matter. And didn’t Judge Smith play his role well.
Long ago on this forum, I wrote that the most interesting aspect of this case would be how the PTB got out of this mess. Judge Smith gave them the time to get their ducks in a row.
What I would give to know what really went on behind closed doors in the State of NC. The deals, the corruption, the circling the wagons — it really smells.
Durham is unrecoverable.
Exactly right! I remember some who said he would never be disbarred too. It’s all been a long time coming. I hope it’s not over yet for him. This escapade of his destroyed what little faith some people still had left in the system. Whatever he gets will be less than he deserves. But he’s still going to sit behind bars at least for one day.
He better hope they don’t apply that. He would be seriously in the red. He might never get out.
Oh yes, I hope so. I still want that “perp pic”.
11X13. I think the simplistic statement of B&W would make a powerful statement. I have the spot picked out & everything ;-)
Actually it has been pretty quick. This situation went from mid March 2007 to the end of August 2008. That is about 18 months from the original allegation to the DA removed, disbarred and going to jail for a day.
I’m impatient :-)
I wanted him punished the day the DNA came back with no match to the guys & Fong still pursued it.
Me too. But as you know, that not how the law works. This was pretty speedy for the legal system.
Sorry to be so late in getting back to you, but have been busy cleaning up the mess the last storm left in our yard. Only minor damage to the house (praise the Lord) — it could have been wiped out if the tree that split were two feet closer. As it is, we’ll have enough fire wood for the next three years between it and the 35 year-old redbud that was uprooted.
As to Nifong, 24 hours in the pokey and a $500 fine. Gee, will he have to forfeit his membership in the Book of the Month Club, too? Boy, ven tings go wrong. What an abysmal disappointment. What a thoroughly miserable stab at justice.
