I find it rather amazing it was the dems in the state of NC...that got this man. Since, in DC the sorry dems are comfortable having a senator among them who left to drown in his automobile a young woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair .need I say more.
Another thing. I keep hearing reporters referring to this as the “LaCrosse” case. Shouldn’t it more properly be called: “ Nasty Niphong’s notorious non-case” ?
Will Nancy Grace lead with this news item?
$500...$500 for this POS who lied to the court.
I suppose it’s a start, but geeze..!
And so should the little tramp that started this whole mess.
Libs accepting responsibility and making ammends for their transgressions?
It would be nice but I think we have a better chance of GWB being elected to a 3rd term while sweeping every state.
Feels good, doesn’t it? Even if he is only in jail for 24 hours. There is always hope that he will be cellmates with 300 pound “Bubba” who likes boys.
Good one!
So happy to hear the guilty verdict, but 24 hours? ARGH!
Yes it does. Wonder if he will get the “perp walk” he forced on all three of those boys? On top of all the lies for his own gain, he wanted to publicly shame them. He deserves to know what that felt like.
Who he put there!!
A great day that many told us would never happen. One day in jail my be symbolic, but he is the one doing time.

I watched most of the two day hearing and that was a dog and pony show if I ever saw one. The proceeding was all but scripted. And Nifong knew the script. He was just too smug. His previous apologies notwithstanding, Nifong was in the spotlight once again acting as if "something happened" that night at 610 Buchanan. And his lies and insinuations went unchallenged in one of the worst cross-examinations I ever seen.
As I predicted 16 months ago, Crystal Gail Mangum will never be put on the witness stand in any proceeding related to this case. She be the wrong poster girl for this "white-on-black" hoax.
Yes, it was a better outcome than I --jaded thing that I am-- expected. Nifong is out from his coveted position of power as Durham DA and he has been disbarred. He's been found guilty of criminal contempt and he's received his symbolic single day sentence.
But does anyone here think that trust has been restored to the NC justice system? You all feel better after hearing that testimony from Judge Marcia Morey that it's okay for a prosecutor to lie until the trial stage? And what about Judge Stephens, the first judge who aided and abetted Nifong's efforts to railroad the three innocent lacrosse players? After hearing his blubbering statement in support of Nifong, would you feel confident about appearing in his courtroom?
The courthouse crowd prevailed. It'll be business as usual in Durham. It's over, folks. There will probably be some payments from the state and/or city to the families, but I don't think for a second that there will be any investigation or indictments by the feds, any heads rolling at the DPD or at Duke, or any meaningful reforms by the State of NC.
You are right, Mad-Margaret! The only hope left is for a Federal Justice Department investigation into the civil rights violations of the Duke players. Only a full scope investigation of the NC political and justice system will completely reveal all the corruption.
The City and Couny politicians, the law enforcement, the judicial and the university educational systems here have ties that lead to the sex industry that gave us Crystal Gail Mangum. Digging into the City Council and police departments of Durham would find all sorts of corruption.
Just look at what they have found here in the state government this past year, with former a former Agriculture department head, and former House speaker and a former state lottery director all in prison. The State of North Carolina has more than its share of corrupt officials. And the Democrats are mentioning Governor Easley as a potential Vice President? ROTFL!!
North Carolina is a full discovery state. That means a prosecutor must turn over all evidence to the defense. Nifong did not turn over exculpatory DNA evidence to the defense, and here’s the key point, lied about it to a judge.
It was already known that the DNA of the accused was not found on the accuser. That, in itself, should have been enough to get the case thrown out months ago. However it was not. Nifong was hell bent on getting a conviction and the passive (to understate it) Durham judiciary was letting him play that game.
The exculpatory evidence that was hidden was that the accuser had on her the DNA of up to 5 OTHER men, none of which matched the accused. This was after she had said that she hadn’t had sex in a week.
Nifong having been caught in a lie, and charges against him filed by the state bar, he had to recuse himself. The NC Attorney General appointed honest prosecutors who looked at the evidence and the NC AG declared that the accused were completely innocent because there was never any evidence that a crime had been committed.
Prior to being convicted of lying to the judge, Nifong had already been disbarred and lost his job as DA.
I just hope the press is as diligent at getting his photo walking into jail as they were when the lacrosse players were arrested and the whole team had to go down to give DNA.
Mike Nifong will spend more time in jail than any lacrosse player.
How many think that Judge Stephens withdrew from the case, because he was afraid of getting removed from the bench for allowing Nifong to continue?
One day is joke. North Carolina is a lost cause.
