Not even teachers can speak English

An official state inspection of Arizona public schools reveals that many students are being taught English by Spanish-speaking teachers whose command of English is so poor that the officials can barely understand them.

The recent inspection revealed teachers providing instruction in Spanish instead of the legally required English, students unable to answer questions in English, and teachers' instructions such as "Sometimes, you are not gonna know some."

The results of the inspections were reported by the Arizona Republic, which concluded hundreds of students in the state are trying to learn English from teachers who don't know the language.

The inspections found teachers who are unable to use English grammar and cannot pronounce English words. The "You are not gonna know" comment came from a Mesa teacher instructing a classroom filled with students trying to learn English.

From a Casa Grande Elementary District teacher came, "read me first how it was before," and a Phoenix teacher at Creighton Elementary asked, "If you have problems, to who are you going to ask?"

I used to work in a school with an English teacher who couldn't spell, and who berated one student for correcting his spelling.

Every time I brought this up to administration, I was not only ignored, I was personally insulted by the admin--EVERY TIME.

These are the people teaching your kids, America.

After seeing the Katrina anniversary coverage this week, it appears that few children in New Orleans can speak English either. Their dialect was unintelligible. I wonder how teachers could understand those who evacuated to other parts of the US after the storm.

LOL!

Not really funny when you're dealing with it, but thanks for the first laugh of the day for me.

When that teacher left for another school, a card was passed around. (Are you surprised to learn he was beloved by the students?) I wrote: "Gud Lukk!" Wonder if he got the dig?

America, is going to have to take it. This is the way things are. Learn Spanish. Buy a good security surveillance system. Make lots of money so you can bribe government officials because this is where we are going to end up. Spare me the talk of civil war or revoltion, it isn’t going to happen. Civil war or revolution should have occured a long time ago. Learn Spanish, the language of your betters.

For what it’s worth, I was in Mexico City on the metro yesterday, and tried to listen to the kiddos talk, it wouldn’t pass any litmus test of the Real Academia Langague Art of Madrid Spain, it was street lingo, and quite regional slang to the riff raff of Mexico City. Try riding in a taxi and understand the code words they use in Mexico. Some of this, will just happen. Wasn’t there a movie made about MY FAIR LADY of a guy who proved he could take a street girl and make her into a fit for an evening with the queen by just changing her speech?

Nonsense and Unacceptable answer, IMO.

As conservatives, we are OBLIGATED to make certain that our next President will NOT tolerate this! If you are supporting one who will, you are part of the problem, not the solution.

EFFECTIVELY SECURE OUR BORDERS.

NO AMNESTY.

AND CERTAINLY NO MORE CFR Presidents!!!

Last year my son in high school had a Hispanic teacher who taught his English class. She could barely speak the language.

He got in trouble for asking her to repeat what she was saying because she simply could not speak clearly enough for him to understand.

This is a actually a pretty good school, she was a substitute for a teacher on maternity leave.

Four words: home/private/parochial school.

And while we're on the subject of public schools and Arizona....

I admire your spunk. However, in the near future, that will get you thrown in prison. Just ask Ramos and Compean. Unless you are ready to take up arms against the US government you are going to have to take your tyranny. I could be wrong, however there is no evidence that I am. In fact all the evidence shows that America is turning into a third world country. I would like to see evidence to the contrary

Well, I had a teacher send home a spelling quiz with the message that only 2 of the 10 words were “corrett”.

I agree with you, but I have hope that all you mentioned can be avoided with the election of the only candidate dedicated and committed to doing it.... Duncan Hunter in ‘08. And I will not settle for any ‘less of’ a Candidate.

The very sovereignty and security of our country depends on it.

"Some teachers' English was so poor that even state officials strained to understand them," the assessment found. "At a dozen districts, evaluators found teachers who ignored state law and taught in Spanish."

But to do anything about it? Oh hell no! They are in violation of the law but will they be fired? Oh Hell No!

Will this be allowd to continue DESPITE the conflict with the Supreme Court ruling regarding the 14th Amendmet in which the stupid OBL claims citizenship for anchor babies?

Well of COURSE it will, they are the protect class, ILLEGAL ALIENS!

Any attempt to force that stupid and arrogant bunch to actually obey the law is going to be RACIST, don't ya know.

I could be wrong, however there is no evidence that I am.

Actually, there is quite a bit of evidence that opposition to the pee-cee kiss-illegal's-butt standard is being recognized by the average real American Citizens on the street for what it is... thinly veiled communism.

Given another year, or right about just before the election, we are going to see the illegals screaming absolute bloody murder. They will be seeing the end of the gravy train of freebies from the real American taxpayers coming to a screeching halt and what we have seen to date from the illegals will have been nothing.

Here goes a little stroll out on the proverbial limb, I predict there will be some event or revelation that "proves" we (real American citizens) absolutely "need" the illegals to get their amnesty. I also predict it will not come from the illegals, it will appear to come from or be directed against the federal government.

Here is what I am trying to figure out. I have several students from Puerto Rico, a US TERRITORY, yet the main language is Spanish. I have one student who barely understands anything I say in the classroom. Maybe I’m just naive to think that the main language in a US Territory would be English.

I happen to agree with you. I have also started to expand my collection of field arms in case you are partly incorrect.

My children’s future is being planned for a life outside of the US.

Kim, if you are saying that Hunter is our only hope, then you might as well concede to his statement now.

his chances are slim and none and slim has left the building.

America is too pussified and PC correct to fight, and that is what we sowed, but as for getting killed, well the one line in Kingdom of Heaven jumps out.

“After seeing the Katrina anniversary coverage this week, it appears that few children in New Orleans can speak English either.”

This sentence implies that the children saw the coverage. The following would be clearer:

“Having seen the coverage ... I have the impression that...”

Your punctuation is very bad. I suggest the following:

For what it’s worth, I was in Mexico City on the metro yesterday and tried to listen to the kiddos talk. It wouldn’t pass any litmus test of the Real Academia Languague Art of Madrid Spain. It was street lingo, and quite regional slang to the riff raff of Mexico City.

The rest of the post is even worse.
