Birth rate hits 15-year high in Russia
RBC, 03.09.2007, Moscow 17:19:29.The birth rate reached a 15-year high in Russia in the first six months of 2007, First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev stated at a traditional Monday meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with government officials. According to Medvedev, 142,000 babies were born between January and June 2007, a record number since the collapse of the USSR, the radio station Mayak reported.
The number of childbirths increased 6.5 percent in the first half of 2007, compared to the same period a year earlier, while the death rate decreased by the same 6.5 percent.
Medvedev said that maternity benefits were being paid to 2m women with children younger than 18 months, noting that 1m of them had not been receiving any benefits before due to being employed.
I remember that Putin asked the Russians to get going, and they got going. If only other civilized countries would ask this of their LEGAL residents!
What is the differential birth rate between the confirmed atheists, the Orthodox Christian, the Russian Jewish, and the Islamic populations?
Here’s betting the Islamics have everybody beat.
Good for them! We need that holiday in the US - “Go home and make a baby.”
In comparison, Infoplease reports that in the United States in 2000, there were over 4,000,000 live births in the United States. Now, we have about double the population of Russia, but can those Russian figures really be right?
This Table seems to indicate that Russia has about 1.5 million live births per year.
I’m not sure Russian Federation statistics are any more reliable than the old Soviet statistics - especially when there are quotas to be met.
This is good news!
As a Swede and a neighbor of Russia, I welcome this development.
Russia is a part of Europe and of Western Civilization. Europe and Russia must unite and begin to grow anew.
Apart from politics and nationalism, children are gifts divine.
Long live Russia!
