Romney and Obama Cross Paths [also Thompson comments]
The Atlantic ^ | September 3, 2007 | Marc Ambinder

At a brief press conference,he teased Ex-Sen. Fred Thompson, who has decided to announce his presidential candidacy one day after an important debate here.

"I guess the only comment I'd make to Fred Thompson is, 'Why the Hurry?' Why not take a little longer to think this over? From my standpoint, if he wants to take 'till January and February, that's ideal."

Romney noted that the rest of the Republican field "would have had five debates without him."

Of this Wednesday's debate, which Thompson will skip, Romney said: "I think it will boost the ratings for the Jay Leno show, but I'd rather be doing well in New Hampshire."

Done with the press, Romney walked about 20 yards to his east. There, Barack Obama was greeting a small crowd of wellwishers, mostly high school and college kids wearing "Department of Peace" tee-shirts. A Secret Service agent guarding Obama's rear tried to stop the phalanx consisting of Romney, several camera crews and Romney aides from slipping right behind Obama, but it was to no avail. Romney stuck his head in the camera shot and gave Obama a big "Hello, Senator!" Obama seemed mildly amused. "Well, let's wait until we debate," he said.

Romney jaunted off.

Speaking of Fred Thompson: Romney noted that the rest of the Republican field “would have had five debates without him.”

Okay Mitt. Go out and find 100 average, off the street Americans. Ask them if they watched any of those five debates that are so precious to you. I betcha $100, no more than ten watched. I'll betcha another $100 that a majority of them are unaware any debates have taken place. If I’m right, maybe Fred is on to something?

Romney’s been running for President for 20 years or more, just like the Hildebeast.

Thank you for making my point. LOL!!

I didn’t watch either. No reason to.

Okay Mitt, time to pay up :)

IMHO, campaigning done 14 or more months before the election is just a waste of the contributor's money. That's why I'm glad Fred Thompson has taken such a reasoned approach to this.

Not only that, but it just turns people off.

Romney noted that the rest of the Republican field "would have had five debates without him."

And they'll have SEVEN (already scheduled) with him. That's more than enough to compare candidates.

That is, presuming the "debates" ever turn into something other than glorified joint press conferences.

I especially like Romney’s impassioned PRO-abortion stance and his PRO-gay boy scoutmaster stance:

I mean, with values like these, who wouldn’t like Romney?

Mitt changed his mind on abortion. He is against it.

Have you watched that video? Complete with “my best friend died in a back alley abortion” bit?

And the “I believe homosexuals should be allowed to work in the Boyscouts.”

You don’t “change your mind” about stuff like that.

Mitt Romney was either lying then to get elected, or lying now to get elected.

You can say all you want...those two issues do not concern me and have no impact in the war on terror. he is willing to continue this fight, he understands this fight, and he will see it to the end if need be.

So Romeny claims today.

He was pro-gay, pro-abortion, anti-2nd amendment when running in MA.

Now, he’s a “conservative.”

Well, the MSM doesn’t like the war on terror, so Romney won’t be for it for very long. We’d retreat from Iraq and Afganistan, tails between our legs.

That video shows that Mitt has no moral compass -— and will say anything to get elected.

I think you are wrong. I think Mitt is intelligent and has faced the fire when it comes to questions regarding abortion and his religion....he’s done it with grace, humor, and intelligence. He is a smart man who I rather like based on what I have seen. Happy voting.

Sure, Romney is smart. Just like Hillary or Obama. Very clever. Says and does whatever is necessary to be elected.

I suppose you never have changed your mind about anything or any issue? Mitt changing his mind is PROOF that’s he’s thinking.
