VIDEO - President George W. Bush in Anbar Province, Iraq

Click link for video - Special thanks to Youtube user Firejack007: The Commander-in-Chief along with the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, and many high ranking generals, gave a speech to the troops in a surprise visit to Iraq. The sound is somewhat distorted by some of the applause and cheers from the troops in the audience. I also added a very fitting piece from LOTR.

Very nice. I saw the speech on Fox this morning, but didn’t see the introductions - Gen. Pace, Gates, and Condi all got a nice round of applause as well. Good speech - short and to the point: your hard work is paying off; you’re protecting the American people; we’re proud of you and will never forget your courage and sacrifice.

I know.
It’s all wrong.
By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are.
It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.

Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

What are we holding on to Sam?

That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo - and it’s worth fighting for.

The evening news here (7) ABC, stated that Bush was saying he plans to start paring down the troops soon.

When I listened to Bush, he said the current successes were the types of things that would have to happen before we could start bringing some troops home.

The media reminds me of children who want to do something so bad, they look for any possible chance to claim their folks said they could do it. They twist words or meanings in order to go get ice cream or whatever.

Doesn’t the media sound just like this?

Yes, but the msm is only making a mockery of themselves - it is out in the open now. I loved hearing the support of Bush from the troops! He was confident and had significant progress to report with the surge - God bless him.

British forces return to their operating base after the handover of Basra Palace to the Iraqi Army in Basra, Iraq. The withdrawal of British forces leaves Iraq's second-largest city without foreign forces for the first time since the American-led invasion in 2003.

President Bush, fourth from left, arrives at Al-Asad Airbase in Anbar province, Iraq, for an unannounced visit for meetings with top U.S. and Iraqi officials.

I also added a very fitting piece from LOTR.

I just re-watched the entire LOTR saga this weekend.....and when Samwise said that in the movie I thought of Iraq. And low and behold.....wonderfully dome m8!

I thought he sounded good also. And the troops seemed to be genuinely glad to have him there. That must really grate the left, who hate him for sending these troops in. Even the troops don’t hate the guy. Why should the left?

Bush posed with individual troops for photos. I guess the left thinks these ‘smiling from ear to ear’ men and women were posing because they dislike Bush so much.

LOL
