"The question on the table-- is Thompson candidate enough to torpedo high-Q man Giuliani and base maximizer Mitt Romney?" I'm just a stupid MENSA member, so could someone please explain that sentence to me...

Fred will announce that he’s not running. He can’t keep up with Mitt Romney’s energy. Otherwise, why would he miss the debate? Jay’s busy the night before?

I think the big question is, once he is in, is it game over or game on?

It will be interesting to say the least.

Oh yeah, Duncan Hunter 2008, because I said would say that to someone...

Done.

“Has Thompson’s late start taken the blooom from his early buzz?”

What the heck is “blooom”? Is that an extra big flower or am I missing something?

Thompson will face increased scrutiny, particularly on his record as a social conservative, where opponents and pundits have already ascribed a certain wishy-washiness.

This politically driven drivel just isn't going to work this time.

At last we have a POTUS candidate with focus that isn't driven by fear and politics!

I'm with Fred now!

is Thompson candidate enough to torpedo high-Q man Giuliani and base maximizer Mitt Romney?"

Q scores are a marketing research measure of name recognition. Giuliani has extremely high name recognition.

I would guess that Romney is referred to as a "base maximizer" because, with his flexible issue positions, he is trying to appeal to both liberals and conservatives.

Who the hell said the start had to be in January of '07? I think it was the media and the Democrats...Republicans one at a time just joined the chorus of media saying if you don't get in by.....you will never make it.

Fred said from the beginning he would be doing things differently. We all know how putting the right team together sometimes takes trial and error! (preseason) Now the true battle will begin. I don't know about you...but I have already heard enough from Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, and John McCain. They could bow out and leave the stage. I would like to hear more from the rest...but that does not appear to be what the media wants.

You have to ask yourself just who this election belongs to? WE THE PEOPLE or to the MSM?

Not for or against Fred, but he looks rather ill. That is my observation. He lost a lot of weight in a short time period. Hope he is doing well. Seriously

Fred Thompson on Illegal Immigration

Fred Thompson on The Immigration Bill

but the headlines this week and next will be telling.

The headlines will be misleading and deceitful, as is normal course for our 5th column media.

as the Republicans enter there nomination process without a clear front-runner for the first time since the seventies.

And it appears that somebody should send Guerin or his (her?) editor back to publik skool. Probably both of them.

It looks to me now that it will be Giuliani/Romney, ONLY because Giuliani will not take a VEEP position from anyone.
I don’t see the RNC getting behind someone like Thompson to the exclusion of those several who have already engaged in debates and subjected themselves to scrutiny and brickbats. Ain’t gonna happen. In two or three months Thompson will be a distant memory. There will be NO grassroots swell of support for him, nor any “official” support from the party structure. At this point he is just, and still, a “concept”, entgertained as a “tantalizing possibility” only because of the usual and understandable less-than-100% satisfaction with any existing candidate.

Why I feel that Fred Thompson is the only one in the bunch that can revive that old-time religion of genuine Reagan-like conservatism. Its his remarkable ability to communicate, honestly and openly and with such flair.

A major irritation of the Republican base has been Bush’s trouble articulating. Given a prepared speech he can deliver it with the best of them, but slap a microphone in front of him like at a press conference and we Republicans cringe. His sloppy speaking style only serves to bolster the perception of his incompetence. That is why the most important but least discussed asset we are looking for in a candidate is the ability to communicate, and Fred Thompson seems to be what we the Republicans are yearning for.

We need to not just get a victory in 2008, but we need to look beyond Bush and focus on the long term vision of the Conservative movement. Each of the candidates running have good attributes, and maybe just maybe a few of them have what it takes to beat Hillary, but where will they take the party?

Is this just about beating Hillary? Yea, we get some sweet revenge, but we could also get four years of more of the same politics as usual in D.C. .
Or is this about a rediscovery of our values and our common sense as a Nation, and the resurgence of national pride? We need the President to be the “Nations President” once again.

It’s been written not long after the mess in Florida with the hanging chads, that to half the Nation, President Bush was their President, but to the other half he was not President at all. We can as Americans no longer afford to have that sort of a divide between our people. Ronald Reagan said he left the entertainment world for politics because he wanted to protect something precious. Well the office of President is something precious and the respect for it should be preserved. The President once again needs to be “Our President”, weather you voted for him or not.

Out of all the potential presidential candidates, Fred Thompson is the one that can unite us and move us forward to better things.

In President Reagan’s Farewell Address he said, “I wasn’t a great communicator, but I communicated great things.”

Fred Thompson is a communicator of great things and I am honored to be behind him.
