Democratic donor Norman Hsu fails to appear for bail hearing (Man on the run)

Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu (SHOO) has failed to appear for a bail hearing in Redwood City.

Hsu forfeits the $2 million bail he posted last week. A judge has issued a new warrant for his arrest.

Hsu's lawyer says he doesn't know where he is.

Hsu has been a fugitive in California for 15 years during which time he became a top donor to Democratic candidates, including presidential contenders Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama.

Hsu pleaded no contest in 1991 to a felony count of grand theft, admitting he'd defrauded investors of $1 million in a bogus investment scam.

Prosecutors say he was facing up to three years in prison when he skipped town before being sentenced.

Federal Election Commission records show Hsu donated $260,000 to the Democratic party and candidates since 2004.

Not sure/unlikely that a bondsman was involved. Hsu operates in the mega-bucks galaxy and likely has no need to stoop to having a bondsman spring him. Therefore, no payday...

Absconding on a 2 mil bond is pretty ballsy. Stupid, but ballsy.

likely has no need to stoop to having a bondsman spring him.

So where does with no visible means of income scrape up that much cash? You gotta wonder just how deep this rabbit hole goes.

As evidenced by our trade policies today, we’re perfectly happy to be trade patsies.

I guess Reagan was referring to a totally different group as "we"....the American Citizen...not foreign importers...

He put up $2MM bail, which was forfeited.

The ONLY person doing that is a guy backed by a government. He’s a Chinese spy. That simple.

I also want to know what charity is getting all this money. What do you want to bet that it isn’t the Boy Scouts of America?

$2MM is a lot of dough.

Not a dumb judge, just a Democrat one.

Obvious flight risk. Why else would he get parole?

I think he is too, but bond is, I believe, normally 10% of the bail. The bondsman loses his bet. Dog the bounty hunter will be after him in China.

The bondsman is in on it too. Has to be. What bondsman would take the risk otherwise? That’s why you aren’t hearing anything about that, because the bondsman is likely out on the golf course looking for Mr. Hsu, and OJ’s killer, and the Loch Ness Monster too.

There’s no way he went through a BB. He probably just figured $2.2 million isn’t a bad price to pay for the chance to jet off somewhere and avoid any investigation or jail time.

Soooo, what countries don’t have extradition agreements with us? I’d guess France, but since this isn’t a death penalty case there’d be no reason to refuse extradition.

There’s no party affiliation listed for Ellis (non-partisan race) but he was elected in a county that goes abput 60% Dem and just celebrated “LGBT Pride Month.”

“Hillary is shocked, shocked and surprised.”

No, it’s “Shocked.” “Yeah, shocked... and stunned.”

(That’s from “The Rutles - All you Need is Cash”, a spoof on the Beatles. A former manager gets despondent and, tragically, accepts a teaching post in Australia. Great cast, great movie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rutles )

I imagine he had to put up the whole 2 Mill in Cash.
Otherwise he would have had to out up assets and he had none.
