Seahawks duo blitzed by Bush backlash

KIRKLAND -- Are you still fans of Matt Hasselbeck and Mack Strong after they visited President Bush last week in Bellevue? Or have their political leanings turned you against them?

The Seahawks quarterback and fullback gave the 43rd president a No. 43 jersey with his name on it at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for Rep. Dave Reichert at the Hyatt.

At the time, Hasselbeck called it a thrill and said it was a win-win, this opportunity to meet the president and get out of a team meeting.

But as soon as he saw the picture of the two players with Bush, Gary Wright, the team's vice president of administration, said he was concerned about negative reaction.

Maybe in really red Republican states, it would not have been a big deal. But Washington is a blue state, and deep, deep Democratic blue in King County. So objections were raised, and Hasselbeck heard them and read them. He got nasty voice mails, e-mails and text messages.

"I had no idea," Hasselbeck said.

One guy told him: "I hate you, I'll never wear your jersey, I'll never like the Seahawks again."

"Huh?" Hasselbeck thought. "Seriously?"

"Politics can be very mean and dirty," he said. "The things politicians say about each other, and what activists say, I had a brief glimpse of that for a couple of days.

"If I ever had any questions about whether I wanted to run for office, I now know the answer -- I don't."

As a quarterback, he's used to getting booed. "But this was a whole new level," he said. "I was very surprised how mean (they were)."

It’s nice to see that I live in what looks like one of only two completely blue states!! /s
I would say 3 completely blue states but it looks like Vermont has a tiny sliver of normalcy way up in it’s northeast corner.

You guys are getting the “overflow sewage” from California. They screwed that state up so much they are all moving North to Oregon and Washington. Watch out, they’re all nuts!

What a sad commentary when the administrative VP of a football team expresses worry about negative reactions when the popular quarterback of a popular NFL team attends a fundraiser for a sitting president of the United States.

Is the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag recited in any Seattle schoolroom? Just wondering?

so its a toss up really

This should be the topic of the next presidential debate - "Which group is worse for America - Democrats or Islamofacists?"

The WTC actually pales in comparison to what the Dems did to the Constitution and States rights, and legalized abortion.

It certainly does and I thank God that I am not a part of these culture of hate. They have nothing to respect - even themselves. It started when they took God out of everything and replaced it with “me”!

That’s why I’m trying to get a job in Eastern Washington, specifically Spokane. I want to move my family back to the SANE side of the state!

It almost makes me wish the “Big One” would happen and destroy Seattle.

AFTER I leave.

(Nothing against any current Western WA, FReepers, you understand...)

For Hasselback to be equivalently compared to the Dixie Chicks, He would have had to have called timeout during the game, grabbed a mike, and praise the president, flip off anyone who disagreed, and the team would have to support him.

Really? You'd call in death threats and slash tires on people who attended?

I think that you're talking to the wrong guy, here.

Where else in the whole world can you find a statue of Vladimir Lenin? Only in Seattle. Proudly displayed on a public street corner no less.

You weren't kidding. That's nuts!

I would suggest the first time the Seahawks on in the Red Zone this Sunday Matt calls a play where he throws to Mack Strong for a Touchdown. The liberal fans in the stadium won’t know what to do.

The leftist mindset in this country is so hatefilled I have no doubt it will eventually normalize homicide - just another tactic in its pursuit of power.
