Soldier on CBS Regrets People Not Hearing About 'Good Things Soldiers Do for Iraqis'

With Katie Couric in Iraq, the CBS Evening News on Wednesday allowed viewers to hear directly from U.S. soldiers who regretted how people back home don't hear more about “the good things soldiers do for the Iraqis” and warned that a pullout by the U.S. would lead to “mayhem.”

Couric asked a small group of soldiers: “What would you like people to know that you don't think they're hearing back home?”Army Sergeant Jamie Wall answered: “The good things that happen out here, the good things that soldiers do for the Iraqis and how the Iraqis react to us.”

Sergeant Brady Marcus predicted: “If we pulled out now, the gangs would take over, the streets would be in mayhem, and this place would be a disaster area.” Couric responded by suggesting it “sounds like, in your opinion, there's no easy answer,” which prompted Marcus to reproach Couric's simplistic appraisal: “There's not an easy answer.

We're at war, Katie, and it's not an easy thing to get through.”

I mock Katie a lot but I think she's doing one thing that all too few senior journalists condescend to do, and that is actually meeting the troops in the field. I've said it before, but you cannot do that and come away with the same illusions that seem common currency among a class of journalists who never served and don't know anyone personally who ever did - that they're brainwashed, that they don't have the same lordly level of information available to journalists, that they're ignorant, poor, alienated, oppressed.

Unfortunately those few who do aometimes tend to forget this once they're back in the giant echo chamber that is the bi-Coastal media.

While I have no hopes for Katie...it may very well be that she comes out of Iraq with some appreciation for soldiers in general and what they live through 24 hours a day. No one goes there for 365 days and comes back as a same person...so they are giving up something of themselves in each deployment that they make over there. This is what people ought to understand about guys who do this.

If the damn MSM would show all the good things happening in Iraq and how much more enjoyable live is maybe the crazies in the other muslim nations would want to see their lot in life improved and become angry at their leaders and want more western style freedom

She’s bucking the cBS playbook... much like Dobbs does with illegals... in order to gain some viewers.

When is the CBS News going to be forced to be honest and drop the C from their name?

cBS and Couric must be desperate for ratings - they’re actually interviewing real live soldiers, lol.

Too bad for cBS and co. that they didn’t do this years ago, imho, it’s too late to save their buts now.

You are exactly right! I would have just said “Spot On” but I am not British.

A comment on CBS.

I tuned in yesterday to the station in Upper Michigan that carries Rush Limbaugh. The news, of course spaces out the program. This I heard from CBS news. On President Bush's visit to Australia.

Raucous Michael Ware like voices chanting "Troops out now, troops out now". Next, a quick cut to an equally distorted Michael Ware like voice, alone. "Shouldn't 'ave a War Criminal visitin'". Now to an American- a Senator Biden. Quoth Biden to the extent of mentioning cutting down 130,000 troop deployments by GWB. He then said, we are caught in the middle of a civil war. The voice in desperation mode.

They hanged William Joyce at the end of WW2 for not a heck of a lot less.

What's so incredible is that we could have been involved in Iraq for this long and they just now got around to it. The mainstream leftist controlled media is simply an sinister imitation of the free press our founders built into our constitution. It has actually become a danger to our continued existence. I doubt strongly that CBS will allow this lapse to go on much longer. They will quickly return to their regularly scheduled "programming" [i.e. "indoctrination"].

I wonder what else Katie would do for ratings (chortle)?
