Zawinul Gone at 75

The very great Joe Zawinul has passed at 75 Accordionist, proud Austrian, composer of Mercy, Mercy, In a Silent Way, and Birdland, associate of Miles, McLaughlin, Cannonball, Hancock, and Shorter, arguably the father of world music, Zawinul has left the building.

Saw him way back in 1975 with Weather Report. RIP to a great musician.

I think it was in the mid 80’s I saw him with Weather Report in Ann Arbor, MI. You Tube has some good clips of the band. The guy had a long history of creativity. An aquaintance of mine who spent some time in Zawinul’s home said he liked gardening and would talk about it as much as, or more than, music.

Sad news. I just saw a youtube clip of him playing with Cannonball Adderly.

With fond memories of picking up "Mysterious Traveler" in Fort Wayne, based on the cover artwork.
