SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. On the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, students at one high school were not allowed to wear clothes with an American Flag. Under a new school rule, students at Hobbton High School are not allowed to wear items with flags, from any country, including the United States.
The new rule stems from a controversy over students wearing shirts bearing flags of other countries.
Gayle Langston said her daughter, Jessica, was told to remove her stars and stripes t-shirt.
Today she wanted to wear her shirt, and I had to tell her no, said Langston. She didn't like it at all because I knew it would get her in trouble. Of all days, 9/11, she could not wear her American Flag shirt.
The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didnt want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.
Wouldn't want to strain their little brains trying to figure that out, now would we.
The instant I consider myself having enough money, my munchkins are going to private school ASAP.

“but says educators didnt want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.”
WHAT???????!!!!!
“educators”? a joke within a joke.
Numb numb numb.
So what’s wrong with telling the students “We’re in the United States of America. If you’re going to wear a depiction of any flag at all, the US Flag will be the only one permitted. No others.”
Yet another example of PC run amok. Wouldn’t wnat to hurt any foriegners feelings now, would we?
My goodness, such a dilemma
In a US school funded by the US government- which flag to choose to honor above all others???
hmmmm...thinking....thinking......
When I was in Gubmint schools, we had an American flag in every classroom. DId they do away with those as well?
Home schooling is cheaper.
I remember when it was against the rules to wear the American flag as a piece of clothing
I don’t know, for some reason I don’t like people wearing the flag as clothing. I’m no believer in a flag amendment, but I think the flag belongs on a pole blowing in the wind somewhere. Lapel pins are ok, but t-shirts just cheapen the symbol to me. In any event, that’s for the parents/kids to decide, not the government.
All four of mine are in private school. I feel blessed that we are able to afford it.
All flags are NOT equal inside the USA!
This is from the absurd notion that some cultures are not better than others.
The USA IS MOST DEFINITLY better than other societies even with our flaws.
The teachers/administrators who approved this should immediatly go back to their universities and demand a refund for their degrees since they did not actually learn anything.
How about All flags with the Exception of the American flag are banned? Wouldn’t that make more sense?
If only this signaled a new doctrine that could be known as “separation of school and state”.
I wouldn’t have told my children not to wear it. I would have made sure they understood the rules and then allowed them to wear the shirt. If they got sent home as a result, we would have gone fishin’!
Good people of Sampson County, and parents of Hobbton High...
You do not have to take this.
Gather together and find replacements for the board of education that oversees this high school; and lobby (loudly) for the removal of the principal.
You do not have to take this.
The old fashioned way to deal with fights is detention or expulsion for those involved. Because "educators" do not want to suspend large number of Mexican citizens from our schools the obvious answer is to exclude all flags.
I think its time American citizens started getting more involved at the local level, PTA and school board meetings. Myself included.
Yep, that's what they're calling themselves these days. Sounds so much more impressive than just "teachers".
Ironically, back in the days when they called themselves "teachers", they generally had something to show for their efforts.
