Talking to al Qaeda? Don't rule it out, some say (MEGAHURL!)
Reuters via Yahoo ^ | Thu Sep 13 | Mark Trevelyan, Security Correspondent (lol)

LONDON (Reuters) - Six years after the September 11 attacks, a few cautious voices are beginning to suggest the unthinkable -- maybe it is time to consider talking to al Qaeda.

The idea will revolt some people and raises obvious questions -- through what channels could such a dialogue take place and what would there be to negotiate?

But proponents say al Qaeda has established itself as a de facto power, whether the West likes it or not, and history shows militant movements are best neutralized by negotiation, not war.

"No insurgency or terrorism has been defeated by warfare or violence," former Anglican church envoy and hostage negotiator Terry Waite said in a debate on BBC World television.

"There are some rational players in al Qaeda but it also attracts the psychotic. We need to seek an entry point," said the Briton, himself a captive in Lebanon from 1987 to 1991.

Jan Egeland, a Norwegian who helped broker secret talks between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organisation in the 1990s and later, as a top U.N. official, dealt with warlords and guerrilla leaders from Colombia to Uganda, told Reuters: "I wouldn't rule out speaking to anybody, a priori."

He went on: "It depends on who you speak to, but also what you speak to them about. I'm willing to speak to the devil to help the victims in the depths of hell. If I could have a meeting with al Qaeda where one could impress upon them that they are the biggest anti-Islamic force around, why not?"

Yes, it is long past time to begin talking to al Qaeda. Start with you have 36 hours to hand over bin Laden. If you refuse we will kill every man woman and child in North Diarrhea-stan. If you are to orchestrate another attack in the Western owrld you can kiss goodbye to Mecca, Medina, Qom and any other place that you savages consider holy. If you continue to persist then we will begin to bomb islam from the face of the earth.

There is nothing wrong with “talking” to al Qaeda - if by talking they mean interrogating, intimidating, or insulting. :)

Just exactly how does one negotiate with them? They want to kill everyone in the world who is not a Muslim fanatic. Should we compromise and let them kill half the people in world?

I second that!

“I’m willing to speak to the devil to help the victims in the depths of hell.”

I am not going to comment on the theological aspects of the above statement, but for us to speak with the devil is exactly what he wants us to do. How can anyone negotiate with a liar when any contract with him is null and void from the very start?

I find it curious the same people calling for ‘negotiations’ with al Qaeda are the exact same people that had no desire to ‘negotiate’ with Operation Rescue in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s.

Back then, these ‘same people’ said they couldn’t negotiate with ‘religious fanatics’.

Yep, very curious.....

That’s the process by which terrorists become Leftist heroes, and then statesmen. Worked for Yassir Arafat, etc.

If we talk to these people, we will of sold out our fellow citizens, the brave souls who have died fighting these terrorists, and our principles.

“Why in the hell do they keep writing this crap?”

They think it sounds clever. And they’re throwing their fellow leftists a bone to chew on.

We didn’t have to. Chamberlain was at the beckon call of Hitler & Moussilini (sp?). He ran to them like an obedient dog whenever they called. Obviously, it’s a rock solid strategy to try to reason with mentally unstable people.

Well, a demand for unconditional surrender does require talking to the enemy. ^_^

If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case; you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.

This is ridiculous. When it comes to al-Qaeda, there is nothing to talk about. They want total worldwide submission to radical Islam and want to murder any and all who do not submit. You cannot negotiate with people who want all or nothing, who demand everything and threaten death if they don’t get it. We cannot reason with people who possess such relentless malice. We can only fight them.

Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Kerry...they all talk to Al Queda all the time. Like when they rebutted General Petraus, they spoke the same words that Obama Bin Laden does.

Maybe we should have a meeting with OBL. First, we would locate him. Secondly, the talk would go like this...”We want to come to an agreement with you. You surrender and we won’t kill you. How’s that?”
