Actor-turned-Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is expected to attend a fundraiser at the Fort Worth Zoo next month, his first stop in Tarrant County since officially entering the race for the White House.
The fundraiser is set for Oct. 10, according to an e-mail sent out by Attorney General Greg Abbott to supporters encouraging them to support the former Law & Order actor for president.
The fundraiser will be hosted by Lee and Ramona Bass, according to two Republican sources familiar with the details but not authorized to publicly discuss campaign activities.
According to the invitation, tickets will cost $1,000 per person. Those who pay $2,300 will have a photo taken with Thompson. Supporters who commit to raise $10,000 will be granted an invitation to a "private boardroom style" meeting with Thompson before the fundraiser.
A call to Lee Bass' office Thursday was not returned.
Fort Worth Zoo spokeswoman Lyndsay Nantz Hoover confirmed that a private fundraiser for Thompson has been scheduled there.
Thompson spokesman Patrick Burchette could not confirm Thursday that the former Tennessee senator would attend.
Thompson has scheduled a series of events in the state next week, including a stop in Dallas on Thursday.

If someone could do a Texas ping, I’d appreciate it. Also, here’s another link to support Fred: https://www.fred08.com/contribute.aspx?RefererID=c637caaa-315c-4b4c-9967-08d864cd0791
It will be interesting to see how the Texas money comes down in this primary. Initially I think Giuliana was the candidate from some of the money people. Now some seem to be heading towards Thompson.
Hmmmm, I figured Fred was too lazy and did not have enough fire in his belly to even wake up in the morning.
Not a fredhead, but would take Fred over the one who got legal deferments from the Vietnam war to be a law clerk. Just something that makes me wonder why everyone that falls into the GOP sheeple arena, bow to julie annie when it comes to qualifying to stepping up to the plate...
You read that article too huh.
That article has been written 100 times about Fred. Same old, same old. Probably just reusing old Reagan articles and changing the name.
LOL, great line about using the same Reagan lines, just changing the name. So true.
***If the Bass family is behind Fred Thompson, as this would seem to say, then fundraising shouldn’t be a problem***
Absolutely!
Very good news for TX Fredheads.
T. Boone Pickens and Harold Simmons [TIE] were big supporters of the swiftboat veterans. Both oilmen. They got an invite to a state dinner at the White House. I hope they support Fred too.
I can’t remember if they supported Bush #43 or not but they tend to be Republican and tend to donate a lot of money.
Come-on, there is nothing wrong with that. Viet Nam wasn't big enough to hold everyone that legally avoided it.
It does matter. Duncan Hunter believed enough in the event to put down his college books and go as a Ranger. A man that talks the talk, and walks the walk, is respectable. That said, I wouldn’t vote for McCaine, pecause of his actions here at home, but I respect him a lot more than most others, for stepping up to the plate, and doing what he believed was right.
Hunter stepped forward then, as he does now. One of the few who has experience in real world activities (worked his way through college). The election isn’t about comparing what they have in common, it’s what’s different about them from the rest of the pack, and why they are best to lead the country. Which reminds me, believe when it comes to how they have managed their personal life, I look at how many times they’ve been divorced, and remarried. The guy from New York is no conservative. Hunter is still happily married to his first, says volumes to me.
