Cops At Risk As Criminals Use More Assault Weapons
South Florida Sun-Sentinel ^ | Sept 16, 2007 | Robert Nolin

An extraordinarily violent day in South Florida -- which began with the shooting of four police officers south of Miami, and ended with the death of the gunman in Pembroke Pines -- brought home a disturbing fact of criminal life: More offenders are taking to the streets with high-powered assault weapons. "You can buy an assault rifle for about $200," said Carlos Baixauli, a special agent with the Miami district office of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "That gives you a lot of firepower with the flick of a finger."

Oh really. A full auto or burst fire capable weapon for $200? Where, off the back of a truck, sold by a guy who stole them from a military or police, including federal police, weapons room?

But not in the US. Newly manufactured full auto (including burst fire) weapons have been illegal for mere civilians peons, to own in the US since 1986. So both the buyer and the seller of those $200 assault rifles would be committing a federal felony, even if they were otherwise law abiding citizens. Of course the criminals attitude is "whats one more felony. Actually you can buy an assault rifle for under $200, in any third world country. In fact you can probably get them even cheaper than that.

The real military definition is more complex. Most assume a weapon has to be at least semi-automatic and preferably automatic to qualify but, in real life, that's not really necessary. In fact in real life, most people attempting to fire any military weapon in full auto mode will never hit anything with it.

"Assault weapon" is a term made up by the gun grabbers. It' means any gun we don't the citiznry to have, this week.

An "assault rifle" OTOH, is, by DoD definition, "“short, compact, select-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges" (submachine gun cartridges are *pistol* catridges, although occasionally loaded a bit hotter). Examples would be the M-16, true AK-47, the FNC, the HK-53, the PRC, Type 95 / 97, the Steyr AUG and a host of others.

Me thinks the demoncratic congress has something in mind for us.

That's OK, we might have something in mind for them as well. Turnabout is fair play, right?

The impression I get is that full auto shooting should only be done with belt-fed weapons and you’re basically fighting WW-I when you do it even with the belt-fed weapons. The situation which calls for it rarely exists any more.

Then why does the military issue M-249s and M-240s? Many militaries are still using full auto capable weapons as the basic infantry rifle as well. Even some which use very modern M-16s. Sometimes you really need suppressive fire.

Miami Dade and Broward had already decided to issue the AR15 to line officers before last weekend's killings. I don't see, however, how having AR's on hand this last time would have helped the situation. These cops didn't even have handguns out, nor were they particularly alert, figuring, I guess the odds were four to one. According to a police dispatcher I spoke to, these cops were remarkably nonchalant while approaching the vehicle, even though the two most dangerous jobs in police work are car stops and domestic disputes.

I've heard some cops (friends and acquaintances) and some other folks "in the know" and the consensus seems to be this was SJS: Sudden Jihadi Syndrome. This guy was training for some kind of event requiring getting out from behind the wheel of an automobile and using the AK, swiftly and accurately. Know how difficult that is to do? I train all the time to exit my vehicle while bringing a handgun to bear and that's damned difficult. Now imagine something that measures just over one meter in length.

Those cops stumbled onto an operation in motion and the little Jihadi knew his number was up so he decided to execute on the spot. He apparently bought the weapons using the stolen identity he had. That the "girlfriend" used the stolen identity as a deception to throw the cops off the scent, automatically raises flags as to how planned all of this seems to be. Will any or all of this make it into the news? What do you think? Initial reports state the perp had "strong ties" to the Miami Muslim community, but they're a powerful entity and will suppress this, I'm sure.

Scary part? If there's one there's many. Imagine a packed mall the day after Thanksgiving. Imagine multiple cities and teams of well armed Jihadis. Now imagine how our government will react. Will they pull an Israel and encourage citizens to arm themselves and get training? Heck no. We'll be looking at all sorts of permanent gun bans and a situation like the sheep now face in the UK.

I was watching BBC America last night. One of our (my wife and I) favorite shows is MI-5. Perfect example of the benevolent despot. The sheep are disarmed and under constant video surveillance so that the "sheep herders" of the government can "keep them safe for their own good." The sheepdog is cut out of the equation. Last night's episode was very telling as one MI-5 operative had it out with a political superior over the intentional assassination by the gov't of a rogue army officer to simply silence dissent. The MI-5 guy said that if this is what the New World Order is all about then he's on the wrong side. He was promptly suspended. Next week is the season finale. This storyline is supposed to culminate in a cliff hanger. Ought to be interesting.

Here's a thought....if you want a safe job, don't be a cop.

Actually being a cop isn't particularly dangerous. It varies from year to year, but usually commercial fishing, electrician, truck driver, construction work, landscaping, high steel, farming, commercial pilot, and sometimes convenience store clerk, etc. ALL have higher on the job mortalities than police work.

And, how many of those occupations have to fear AK-47's? For the record, I do know what you mean.

None of them including the police (with the possible exception of convenience store clerk) Lightning kills more people in Florida than any ugly black guns ever did. If you're cop and "fear AK-47's" then you're a retard and probably should be chief.

"This guy was training for some kind of event requiring getting out from behind the wheel of an automobile and using the AK, swiftly and accurately."

I heard LaBeet sped away from the stop, ran into his residence and got the rifle from there. He then shot the approaching officer from a window in the building. He then ran out of the building shooting wildly, jumped into the car, and took off. He later abandoned the car and the rifle in preference for his 9mm.

Dade county has been trying to push a ban on the sale of certain evil looking guns for a while now.
