"For example I keep running into knowledgeable Republicans who tell me that the candidate who would make the best president in the race today is Rep. Duncan Hunter. They hasten to say, however, that he can't win".

Well, Mr. Brennan, we plan on changing that!!

Hunter cannot win . He can’t even best the Hucktser, and that shouldn’t be hard to do given that the Huckster is a Klinton loving nanny statist .

Agreed. Conservatives follow the liberal media line and pick a RINO because they're told only an "inclusive" candidate can win. Thus, the elimination of strong conservatives like Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because - quelle surprise the liberal media tells conservatives they can't win!

The “right candidate” is hardly, if ever, the front runner. The media wouldn’t stand for it.

And the “best candidate” is, not surprisingly, never in the race. Our system is designed to scare the best of America away.

It’s the whole Sh*’ idea that (Ronald Reagan) Conservatives ‘Can’t Win’ promoted by the liberal (elitists) media as if they’re rarely wrong! They, and the P.C. crowd, echoed by many Corporate elites, bureaucrats, and pseudo-experts, is that notion (Of course they’re really afraid of this) that a Ronald Reagan Conservative Cannot win in contemporary America, Let’s Prove Them Wrong!!

Consistency on this issue (abortion) is the key to unlocking a candidate’s character. It’s not an issue where a candidate has the option of changing his mind. If he ever denied the right to life, he displayed a deep flaw in his character that should eliminate him from further consideration.
***That’s about how I see it as well. Duncan Hunter fits the bill. Fred doesn’t.

It's what I've been saying for years. We defeat ourselves by succumbing to this "he can't win" mentality, especially when it's early in the game. Do not listen to the talking heads. Vote your head and your conscience. Volunteer. Donate. Do something! Just don't let somebody else pick your candidate for you.

This construction becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Voters, convinced that only the ordained front-runners have a chance, find their choices limited to the front-runners and dutifully pick and choose from among their number. The second tier of candidates are thus automatically eliminated from the contest. This is a lousy way to choose the candidate you want running America for the next four years.

It is...but between various noncitizen interests contribution millions to campaigns and the media doing their best to promote Republican candidates friendly to gays, abortion, and illegals it's not surprising.

Great article pissant! Thanks for the thread.

Voters, convinced that only the ordained front-runners have a chance, find their choices limited to the front-runners and dutifully pick and choose from among their number. The second tier of candidates are thus automatically eliminated from the contest.

Among that second tier are men of probity and competence who stand head and shoulders above the top tier yet are ruled out of the competition by what is an exercise in false logic.

Look at how easily the MSM has stacked the deck against conservative candidates. Even here, in these hallowed halls of conservatism, conservatives are polling 25%. It should be a lesson to us in just how effective this strategy is.

It leaves conservatives with the same Hobson's Choice in the primary as we face in the general election: The lesser of two evils.

It cannot be said enough, and especially this year, wherein TRUST is the main issue facing Republicans: Republicans always lose when they compromise their principles.

This would not be a problem if people had enough “snap” to vote their conscience. But, don’t get me started.

"Of course he can't win if the very people who recognize what they see as his superiority dismiss his chances out of hand."

That's exactly why we've been moving to the moral, fiscal and anti-defense left for decades.

Socialists were infiltrating the Republican Party and dictating to Republicans during the 1800s. Susan B. Anthony was one of those socialists (see her influence from Charles Fourier). She later traveled with the racist Democrat George Train and refused to speak against lynchings. I did a long study on Anthony, her friends and their political activities. A few conservative academics are continuing that study, as I asked them to do.

1. Duncan Hunter is the best candidate.
2. A country with states that elect complete scumbags like Barack Hussein Obama, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, “Dick” Durbin, Patrick “Leaky” Leahy, Jon Corzine, Ted “The Swimmer” Kennedy, John ‘F’ing Kerry, and Chuck Schumer will never elect Duncan Hunter.

Of course, that’s what I keep hearing at FR.

I will do my part to make sure people hear about Hunter’s “superiority.”
