FBI suppressed video of TWA explosion

Recovered debris from TWA 800

More than six years after retired United Airline captain Ray Lahr launched his Freedom of Information Act petition into the fate of TWA Flight 800, the FBI has shown him –likely by accident – one seriously smoking gun.

The Boeing 747 blew up off the coast of Long Island on July 17, 1996. One of the FBI documents received recently by Lahr and his attorney details a communication that took place six days after the crash:

"The FBI guy who looked at this must not have read it, or not have realized what it would reveal, Otherwise he would have redacted most of it as before."

I doubt that it would be possible to keep it secret, since there would have been numerous witnesses on the ship in question, and keeping a secret among that many people just isn’t feasible.

Ever hear of the Liberty?

What always confused me, was whose missile was it? Remember Pierre Salinger (member of JFK's administration) was in France at the time and claimed it was our own navy that brought it down.

I have heard other reports of seeing the missile coming from out at sea.

I wonder if our navy may have been involved but in trying to intercept the missile before it hit the plane.

The NTSB witness group reviewed the summaries and determined that the documents contained 736 witness accounts.[6] Of these, the group determined that 670 witness reported seeing something that probably related to the accident, and 250 reported hearing something that was likely related to the accident.[6] 258 accounts were characterized as “streak-of-light” witnesses (”an object moving in the sky...variously described [as] a point of light, fireworks, a flare, a shooting star, or something similar.”)[6] Of these 258 witnesses, 38 reported that the streak was ascending vertically or nearly so, 18 indicated that it originated from the surface of the earth, and 7 reported that it originated at the horizon.[6]

599 witnesses reported a fireball; of these 264 reported seeing the fireball originate, 200 reported seeing the fireball split into two fireballs, and 217 reported observing the fireball hit the surface of the water, or disappear below the horizon.[6] 210 witnesses reported seeing both a fireball and a streak of light.[6]

Actually, if it is only conspiracy, why has the government hunted down, charged and jailed a former TWA flight trainer, her retired (on physican disability) policeman husband, former pilot and former TWA investigator?

The government (both Clinton and Bush Justice Depts.) surpressed outside lab findings from reputable labs that they themselves use in cases, former military pilots' testimony, individual private pilots, witnesses who had absolutely no reason to lie about seeing the exact same thing, miles apart who never met, spoke nor even knew of one another's existence, reassigned navy personnel who were on duty in area, out of the country for years.

Sounds like perhaps a little CYA of people

Hi cgk, regardless of the source of the post the same comments and questions have come from others over the years.

Some questions need answering.

We don’t keep secrets very well.

Something like this, impossible to keep secret.

...an amateur video shot five days before the plane's demise. The video captured an image, concedes the FBI, "consistent with the exhaust plume from a MANPAD...

So, 5 days before the airliner goes down, someone sees something that sorta looks like a SAM. So a SAM must've brought down the plane nearly a week later? Where is the logic in this reasoning? I'm sure in the week preceding the crash someone thinks they saw Elvis too. So does that mean it was obviously Elvis that shot it down?

Cardinal O Connor told him, if he showed up at the airport, he would leave.

Did the cardinal have a specific issue with Clinton (this was pre-Lewinsky, but post-Gennifer Flowers and a thousand others) or did he just detest him because Clinton is a miserable excuse for a human being?

Was it George Stephanopolis who said on television that when the missle hit TWA800 they all went to the situation room of the White House? Someone else from the Clinton White House also said something similar.

Thanks for the name of Mohammed Ferrat. Just a quick search on google reveals a lot. Clinton was something else.

If we always deny that a terrorist has shot down a plane, then we render the terrorists’ attacks useless—because their acts of terror will never be known.

There may be a consensus about this among governments, IMHO.

Some of us KNOW it was a missle. Actually, a lot of folks know. Worked at a defense contractor at the time. It wasn’t a manpad, it was test of an anti-missile system..... thus the supression. Would have killed off a big company the defense department depends on.

A MANPAD (shoulder fired surface to air missile) has a solid propellant based rocket motor that fires for only 1 or 2 seconds. The remainder of the flight is then a coast starting at somewhat over Mach 1.

I keep hearing about a streak of flame approaching TWA-800. This is not commensurate with a MANPAD.

Also, such air defense systems would home in on the exhaust, resulting in an engine being hit and not the center of the plane. One such missile hitting a 747 engine might not be enough to bring the plane down.

TWA-800 was barely inside the range of such defense systems when the incident occurred.

I will listen to “conspiracy theories” if they seem to have merit.

Cardinal O Connor was a admiral in the Navy, and served two tours in Nam, serving with the Marines. Went on quite a few choppers with the troops. That could be part of his disdain for Clinton.

He also disliked Clintons stand on life issues.

Yes, I remember Stephanopolis ‘slipping’ and mentioning TWA 800.

I don’t think there are many ppl left who believe the official story. Put it in the context of terrorism in the 90’s, like ‘Path To 9/11 did.

To know the truth you have to think like Perry Mason was portrayed in his shows. Back then, it was called thinking for yourself, not conspiracy :^)

***”When George Stephanopolis was already a network commentator after coming from the Clinton administration he was discussing the issue of terrorist acts. He rattled off a list of terrorist events which had occurred during the last 10 years. He included TWA Flight 800.***

Beats being embarrassed by you ignorance, doesn’t it?

Any idea where the only other two center fuel tank explosions in aviation history happened? (hint: they’re both terrorist hotbeds)

Do some homework. Don’t be a chump all your life. TWA 800 was an obvious terror attack.

"In my opinion, the second theory can be ruled out. If a missile went astray during the exercise, I doubt that it would be possible to keep it secret, since there would have been numerous witnesses on the ship in question, and keeping a secret among that many people just isn’t feasible."

You are right, it isn't feasible and lots of people know and have talked about it. But no one believes them. Nuts and sluts works very well and screaming "conspiracy theorist" is also effective (as practiced by some characters here). You can't keep something this big secret but you can destroy credibility easily and you can confuse people with bs.

John Kerry also called it an attack twice on national television inside of two weeks (9/11 on Larry King, 9/14 on Hardball).
