Fred Ahead
Elephant Biz ^ | September 20, 2007 | Bill Hobbs

Posted on 09/20/2007 8:05:42 PM PDT by Josh Painter

Now, why would blogger Bill Quick say, "This race is between Giuliani and Thompson, and Giuliani is losing."

Well, consider the latest poll in Wisconsin, where Rudy Giuliani leads at 28 percent and Fred Thompson is in second place at 24 percent. Notes Quick: Thompson hasn't even been to Wisconsin yet.

In the same poll I found something else almost as interesting: John McCain and Mitt Romney are in single digits in Wisconsin - at eight percent and seven percent, respectively - while non-candidate Newt Gingrich is at six percent. Two major-league candidates who have raised and spent millions aren't even leading a non-candidate by a margin bigger than the poll's 3-point margin of error.

The race for the Republican presidential nomination is now a two-man race and if your first name isn't Rudy or Fred you're not in it...

The article is way over the top. There is still lots of time for things to go right (and wrong) for the different candidates. The voters really haven't started focusing.

I actually think the race is between Romney and Thompson. Guiliani is unlikely to win. He lives on a core of RINOs and name recognition amongst everything else. The later will fade rapidly when the voters start focusing. He reached his peak early on and has only downhill to go from there.

Thompson is still untested. We'll see how he holds up. Romney has a great organization and lots of money and is focusing well on the early primaries. He's already been thru a lot more heat than Thompson.

Both Romney and Thompson talk a good conservative. But both have pasts that are inconsistent with the current talk. Romney is more scripted and thus seems less genuine. Thompson shoots from the hip. He'll make more mistakes but voters will like him better.

It's not a great field and I'm waiting to see if someone can take charge of the race. So far, it ain't happening.

Okay, we know that is true in spades concerning Romney, but can you produce the same volume of flip-flops for Thompson. I don't thinks so. Just a few, and some of those he has clarified that his earlier decisions did not work out as planned (i.e. CFR).

Your comparison of Fred and Mitt is lame. Apples and Oranges comparison.

IMHO by late October, it will be Freds’ to lose and the polls will agree with me.

I certainly think that Romney is much better than Giuliani. Frankly, I have been very surprised that he hasn’t done better than he has. But the fact remains that he has been going all out, has spent a ton of money, has good name recognition and a professional staff, yet seems unable to raise his numbers. Instead they have been steadily declining.

I’m really not sure why.

I dunno. I was all ready to support Fred..but so far I am not convinced. He seems a bit arrogant at this point and his ‘hollywood’ credentials give me pause as well.

Fred ain’t no Reagan!!

Flame away......

What concerns me is, I’m afraid that the top two out of Iowa will be Romney/Huckabee (in that order) and out of New Hampshire, Romney/McCain.

The “momentum thing” scares me.

Fred himself said he is not Reagan, there will be only ONE RR and never another. Might be better if you educate yourself, instead of just mouthing the same Dunkin,Mittbot, Julieanybody talking points.

Fred never said he was the next Reagan and he has never has been Hollywood.

Fred was drafted for his Senate seat.

Drafted to play himself in a movie about being a lawyer.

Drafted to play parts in movies of authority.

Now drafted to run for President.

Fred Thompson is real and people saw that long long ago!

The one that is always claiming to be Reagan is the anti-Reagan.

Mitt “Ronald Reagan was adamantly pro-choice” Romney.

Flames? Not from me. No, Fred is not Reagan. Nobody is, and I doubt there will ever be another. But another thing Fred isn't is HILLARY. He's also not Rudy. The other don't matter because they are going no place fast.

I like Rudy, I believe President Fred would be smart to appoint his as head of Homeland Security. But I shudder thinking of him as President or Vice President.

His social agenda and his actions on second amendment issues run parallel with Hillary, and if you are trusting enough to believe what he says about judicial appointments, you are far more trusting than I.

No, Fred isn't Reagan. But he is better than alternatives, and so far, he's saying the right things. Never discount the power in the ability to sway others to your point using the skills learned on stage.

His "clarification" of CFR was about as lame a retreat as I have ever heard. It was the absolute minimum required. For a guy who prides himself on plain talk, he really mealy mouthed that one all over the place.

So far, neither of the two of them are at all convincing.
