Sorry for the vanity post. I've been reading so much that it's hard for me to get a grasp on the actual vote count for the nomination. Let's say for the sake of argument that the Judiciary Cmte votes on Thursday to send Kavanaugh's nomination to the full Senate. Does anyone know what the current vote total is for the nomination? Have any GOP senators said they're voting NO? On both sides of the aisle, are they any holdouts - for example, Manchin, Collins, etc? If you had to guess, what will the vote for confirmation be? 52-48 in favor?...

The former president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention has retracted his endorsement of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The Romney campaign has agreed to withdraw all references to Pastor Don Wilton's endorsement of Romney, the Baptist Press reported on Tuesday. Click here to read the Baptist Press article. Wilton said the endorsement — first announced by the Romney campaign last Friday — was a "mistake.:

Used to be, you didn't need a scorecard to read a column written by a conservative pundit. But then along came Election 2008 two years early, and now you have to read 'em with a grain of salt. No, better make that a pound of salt. Take Jennifer Rubin (please). She's regularly thrashed Fred Thompson for months in the American Spectator's AmSpec blog. And in a recent post on Race 4 2008, she explains that it's not just the NY Times that is bashing Thompson, but points to pundits David Frum, Robert Novak and George Will as conservatives who have...

According to Jackie Mason, anyone who watched Tuesday’s debate and didn’t think Fred Thompson won doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Watch Jackie's video here.

Giuliani leads 27%-23%, a five point improvement for Fred from last month when he garnered 18% of those polled. Here are the numbers: 27% Rudy Giuliani 23% Fred Thompson 13% John McCain 11% Mitt Romney 7% Mike Huckabee

Now, why would blogger Bill Quick say, "This race is between Giuliani and Thompson, and Giuliani is losing." Well, consider the latest poll in Wisconsin, where Rudy Giuliani leads at 28 percent and Fred Thompson is in second place at 24 percent. Notes Quick: Thompson hasn't even been to Wisconsin yet. In the same poll I found something else almost as interesting: John McCain and Mitt Romney are in single digits in Wisconsin - at eight percent and seven percent, respectively - while non-candidate Newt Gingrich is at six percent. Two major-league candidates who have raised and spent millions aren't...

WASHINGTON - The South, which powered George W. Bush to the presidency twice, is flexing its political muscle again in the Republican presidential campaign, this time for a native Southerner, former Sen. Fred Thompson of Tennessee. Thompson's all-but-declared candidacy for the GOP's 2008 nomination got even more all-but-declared Wednesday with a fundraising trip to Columbia, S.C., where he was quick to remind his fellow Republicans that he was one of them. "I just came from Nashville. I don't feel like I've left home," he said to a rousing welcome. The trip came amid new polls showing the Alabama-born ex-senator surging...

A group of 36 Republican Georgia legislators, along with several former lawmakers and local officials, is seeking to help "draft" former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., into a run for the Oval Office next year. "We've got good people that are out there running, but none of them are perfect," said state Sen. Eric Johnson, R-Savannah, who is leading the "Draft Fred" movement in Georgia. "Sen. Thompson's got a great record." Sen. Johnson, who used the term "Fredheads" to describe Mr. Thompson's supporters, said the former senator's communication skills and "pro-life, pro-gun, anti-tax record" are his main selling points. "He...

No doubt the latest Gallup Poll came as a shock to you, Governor. It must be very disappointing after all your hard work to have a guy like Fred Thompson eating your lunch as soon as he mentions in passing that he might consider giving serious thought to the possibility of studying a run for the White House. It's time to review your options and your party's. The Republican primaries don't have to be an internecine bloodletting. There is at least one unorthodox path to party unity that looks better and better as one considers your strengths and weaknesses those...
