This would explain the “former” part of his title.

Jim Wallace, Executive Director of the Gun Owners' Action League supported the changes Mitt made in his Mass bill as well.

- plaigarized from unmarked packages homepage.

Despite a heavily Democratic anti-gun Legislature in Massachusetts, Gov. Romney signed a NRA-backed bill in 2006 (H. 4552) that reduced a testing requirement on certain pistol-makers before they could sell guns in Massachusetts. The Gun Owners' Action League praised Gov. Romney for his support of H. 4552.

"Target shooters are an important part of our membership and I know they will be very pleased with this change," said James Wallace, Executive Director of the Gun Owners’ Action League. (Governor Romney Approves Exemption for Target Pistols, July 26, 2006)

Governor Mitt Romney signed legislation aimed at providing one clear definition of a loaded shotgun or rifle for the state's hunting enthusiasts. For years, two competing definitions had existed on the books, leaving law abiding gun owners wondering when and how they can enter or cross a public way with their firearms.

"On behalf of the lawful gun owners of the Commonwealth, I would like to thank Governor Romney and all who took part in the passage of this legislation. We have taken another important step in reforming the 1998 gun laws," said Jim Wallace, Executive Director of the Gun Owners' Action League. "This new law addresses a conflict that had previously caused great concern in those who use traditional muzzle loading rifles and shotguns. Now they confidently know what is expected of them and can enjoy their heritage without the fear of being prosecuted for violating a poorly written law." (Massachusetts Clarifies Muzzleloader Law, Buckmasters, November 22, 2005)

A former New Hampshire law enforcement officer, Craig D. Sandler, officially retired as Executive Director of General Operations to return home to New Hampshire. "I will miss the challenges and our great staff," Sandler said, "and I am very proud of our success in expanding NRA programs. I believe that the more opportunities there are for people to responsibly and safely hunt, enjoy the shooting sports, and collect firearms, the more secure is our Second Amendment freedom."

"For his tremendous service, he has earned the gratitude of our nearly four million NRA members," (Wayne) LaPierre said. "Today, more Americans shoot for recreation than ever before and the shooting sports are a mainstream part of the American scene. That is, in large part, due to the commitment and hard work of Craig Sandler and his staff in General Operations."

it’s not Hugh, nor Huge. The NRA has compromised on so many of our 2nd amendment rights that us gun-nuts won’t be swayed by their endorsement.

Sandler left the NRA, as I recall, about five years ago. John Murtha was a Marine about twenty years ago. Political expediency does funny things to a guy’s integrity.

You are right. It was just fun to say. :-)

It will be really hugh when someone from the GOA endorses Fred. LOL.

It's still a good sign that someone who worked closely with Mitt, admires, respects and trusts him enough on this issue to endorse him.

He was an executive director in 2005. So it may have been hard for him to have left 3 years before that.
