Alan Keyes Now Throws Hat into Republican Presidential Nomination Race

By Peter J. Smith

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 17, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Alan Keyes, a former US ambassador and articulate defender of pro-life and pro-family values, has now announced his own intention to enter the Republican presidential primary.

Keyes declared his candidacy Friday and stated on the nationally syndicated Janet Parshall radio program that not only would he be joining the nine other Republican contenders in the primary, but he would also be participating in tonight's Values Voter Debate in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"I will be participating in the Values Voter Debate on Monday as a candidate, and I will be trying my best - as I forever have, in the course of the years that I have been involved at this level in politics," Keyes said.

"There isn't a standout," Keyes told Parshall in explaining his decision to run saying there needed to be someone who could clearly express the "key kernel of truth that must, with courage, be presented to our people." Keyes said that he felt "like a lot of folks" who have been "unmoved" by the other candidates - including staunchly pro-life and conservative candidates Sen. Sam Brownback, Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Rep. Ron Paul - saying none of them possessed a "forthright, clear, and clarion declaration."

Keyes also told supporters on the website RenewAmerica that he had filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission on Friday making official his 3rd run for the White House.

While Keyes is known nationally as an eloquent defender of life, marriage, and family, he also is known for his unsuccessful ventures. He ran for Maryland Senate in 1992, 1998; the White House in 1996, 2000; then in 2004 relocated to Illinois to make an unsuccessful challenge to Barack Obama for Senate at the behest of state Republicans desperate for a champion after their own candidate withdrew in disgrace.

"The one thing I've always been called to do is to raise the standard," said Keyes, "of our allegiance to God and His authority that has been the foundation stone of our nation's life."

Keyes entry into the race makes him the second black candidate running for president, placing him opposite Democratic contender Barack Obama. Keyes previously said that Obama had to be stopped saying he had taken a "wicked and evil position" through his radical support of abortion.

1992 “Perot can’t win” —> National Debt Increases + Border Wide Open
1996 “Keyes can’t win” —> National Debt Increases + Border Wide Open
2000 “Bauer can’t win” —> National Debt Increases + Border Wide Open
2004 “[Insert Name] can’t win” —> National Debt Increases + Border Wide Open
2008 “Keyes can’t win” —> National Debt Increases + Border Wide Open

So, we just keep declaring as viable, and voting for people who spent their entire lives chasing after money (what Jesus said directly competes with affection for a holy God), instead of getting behind straight talking patriots like Hunter, Tancredo, Keyes, and (gasp!) Paul.

Recipie for someone who will sell you out:

1) chase after money and help nobody but yourself, so you become very wealthy, and conservatives get behind you, and think you are “a contender”, and conservatives also brush off those who are not rich
2) since you have no morals, (after all, you chased after money to the exclusion of everything else), you never feel or speak with any passion about the evil in the world, so you never say anything the least bit offensive, so nobody can ever say, “wow, he’s really out there! I can’t get behind him!”

Bush, Clinton, Bush, all sold us out, and every alternative was declared a loser from launch, because our expectations are in the gutter.

If this negativism keeps up, our next president will run up the national debt, and leave the borders open, abandon the unborn, and act as if the ACLU are harmless hacks.

All of you are better than this. You’ve simply forgotten that settling for sellouts who can “win”, actually causes you to literally lose.

Many in California voted for Arnold because unlike the real conservative Tom McClintock, “he could win”. But did the voters really win since Arnold eventually revealed himself as the liberal *we* *knew* *he* *was* during the recall election?

Hopefully, your expectations will be higher this time, than voting for a “front-runner” who can “win”, but will just sell us out.

You’re better than that. That’s why you are here on FR and not at DU. You either know that values come from our Creator, or you know that society is toast without them.

How do we know who will and will not sell us out? Is there a litmus test of some sort that will give us a hint? I am asking this in a very serious way, not trying to be a smart-ass or anything like that. It seems to me that so many times we’ve been led down the garden path only to have the rug snatched out from under us. Take the Republican Revolution of 1994. We did our part, we put them in control, not only of Congress, but of the White House too. And look where we ended up. We are pretty much limited to voting for those who end up on the ballot and we have little control of that. Oh I know, we get the government we deserve, but there are an awful lot of us out here who know the difference and vote the difference. And many of us try our best to fund the difference. But we can only do so much, and even when we do what is right it can still fall apart.

How do we hold their feet to the fire? It’s very depressing to see that we don’t even have the balls to tell someone like Ahkminanutjob that he’s persona non grata in our country, let alone a Ted Kennedy or Pelosi or Reid (sp?).

You seem like a great guy, I hope you that don’t commit too early, you have plenty of time.

Relax and just read the FR threads for a while.

The litmus test is simple:

1) Did he spend his whole life trying to make money?
2) Does he hate evil enough to say things that are not politically correct?

The answer to the first should be “no”, and the second, “yes”. Anyone else will sell us out ... guaranteed. One answer being right is enough.

We can’t be afraid of candidates with hard truths.

Carefully applying this to the Republican field, the typical “front-runners” fall away.

I don’t know hardly anything about Fred Thompson.

If only I were rich.

IT WOULD MEAN NOTHING TO ME!

Politics, women?

My heart is so pure that I only see females as voters, and then I register them.

You sick SOB, you probably watch “Red Eye” at 11:00 on Fox.

I like this man very much. I voted for him in the primaries even though I knew he couldn’t win. But with him in the debates, some “mainstream” candidates just may sweat a little.

Dr.Keyes opperates at a frequency most American cannot even
aspire to. As with Roy S.Moore and a few others his moral
ethic shames too many weaker than he.I doubt he could win
a popular vote —but he remains a saint.

A 5-time loser. This will be his 6th. Stupid is as stupid does.

Tell you what, if Alan wins I’ll come back and eat humble pie.

I wasn’t aware that Lincoln ran numerous times.

Regardless of Alan’s views, and I do like many of them, I can’t make him the recipient of the votes necessary to make him President. He’s been here twice before and it just hasn’t worked out.

When Fred announced, it was anticipated. There was a considerable following from the start.

When Alan announced several days ago, there was a big resounding thud.

I don’t see Keyes as presidential material, but it’s okay by me that you do.

Like I said, I’ll come back and eat humble pie if he even comes close to being viable.

*********************************

Think about your thinking:

1) I like his views (he has not spent his life chasing after $$$ to the exclusion of all else, AND he is a straight talker)
2) he lost before
3) I won’t support him again

#1 should be all that you need. We’re screwed as long as people are so afraid of not getting something, that they settle for a RINO sellout.

There are aspects of Keyes that I like. I could say the same thing about Giuliani and Romeny. I won’t be voting for these three. And as time goes by the list will expand.

Keyes is not going to blossom into the top candidate. I understand that you hope for that to happen. Please understand right now, that your hopes are an extreme long shot.

Don’t let yourself get burrowed into this to the point that you dislike conservatives because they wouldn’t sign on.

My personal opinion of Keyes, is that he is not presidential material despite the fact that I do like some of what he says.

I voted for Buchanan in 2000, along some of the same lines you are supporting Keyes here. Chances are he would have been a disaster when it came to Middle-East policy relating to the Iraq Afghanistan region. We can’t say for sure, but just about any President’s hand would have been forced by 09/11. Still, his heart wouldn’t been in it like Bush’s has been.

Let it go. There are good men out there this time. If you want the best long shot out there, Duncan Hunter is it. If you wish to spend your time on a guy who deserves it, Hunter is your man.

Keyes has nothing on him IMO. Still, I think you’d be better off looking for the best of the top tier candidates. Some of them may surprise you.

That was posted at almost 3 am, I hope that it came off as humorous as it was meant to be.

Red eye has become one of my favorites.

For such a brilliant man, he sure seems to be a slow learner.

Brilliant and running in 08 are contradictory terms.

Didn't Keyes run against Saddam Hussein Obama in 2004? You do realize that if more people had voted for Keyes, we would not have the following problem.

And in case they nominate Hillary instead of Obama bin Laden:
