Looks like Romney took from Giuliani and Thompson. Hopefully McCain’s showing is a fluke. He’s at the end of my list.

Romney’s going to look pretty strong going into the Primary Day in february.

He’s running near the top in most of the early states except south carolina. He’s not my favorite candidate, but he’s a good guy with a good family, I wouldn’t mind voting for him.

It’s funny how Romney supporters are “trolls” if they post anything pro-Mitt or against Fred Thompson on a thread, but it’s okay for Freepers to slam Mitt Romney.

Inkling, I’m sorry, too. I took your comment “oh fudge” as sarcasm.

Mitt supporters have been banned from Free Republic lately, so I guess we’re a bit touchy.

Now George. Let's get serious here. As Ron Paul placed ahead of many of the frontrunners and the only two people ahead of him was a guy getting ready to drop out of the race and a guy heavily donating to his own campaign there's only a few lessons that can be learned here

-Straw polls don't matter.
-Spammers got to them
-Ron Paul had smelly supporters there, one even with a beard
-Democrats secretly invaded a Republican only vote and skewed the results

Now if enough of the 'right' guys had been ahead of Rep. Paul (say for instance a washed up actor who constantly pats his knee or rambles on incoherently in every video I've seen of him) the lessons learned would have been

-Paul supporters can't even place in a straw poll, which are early indicators of where the electorate is looking
-The 'uneducated' were finally kept out of an important straw poll
-Everyone there was the right 'sort' of people we want in the Republican party, no unwashed limited government sorts or people that look different than we do

You see? That's the way to grow the ever shrinking Republican base....

As an adopted daughter of this beautiful state — that is unfortunately infested with too many lazy and stupid people from its SE corner — I’m with you: Anyone but Giuliani. And I’ll add McCain. If either one is the nominee of my party, I’ll do what I did in 2004 in the presidential race and in 2006 in the gubernatorial race: I won’t fill in those spots on my ballot.

I don’t think it’s a surprise that Romney won. He is from this state. McCain is the surprise.

Forgive me for misconstruing the intent of your posting. I thought that you were one of many knee-jerk detractors, based upon the content of your posting.

Relax. He could have just as easily said "Horse $#!t", and meant the same thing.

FYI, Motor vehicles are not allowed on the island, transportation is by horse and buggy.

i lived in St. Ignace for a while, and could see the island from my front window.

Romney is my second choice so I am happy with the results. Duncan is first choice.

That's my order as well.

Up there by the locks it has an energy all of its own I remember vividly eating at a place that had huge glass plate windows over looking the locks and it was dusk and so the neo lights were on and you could watch the people scurry by!

I wish the detractors would actually READ Romney’s speech before popping off.

I’m impressed even though MI is his home state, as is Massachusetts and Utah (where he headed up the Olympics). I think he would sell in CA also with his style and wife.

Fred is just Bob Dole redux. He will appear tired, bored and old (and he is suffering from cancer although he says non-terminal). He is not inspiring like Reagan, but negative and cynical. I like him out there to put folks in their place, ala Cheney, but he can’t head the ticket.

Let’s just see what the primaries give us. Perhaps a brokered convention, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

****Huckabee, Brownback, Hunter: very very weak.****

I wonder if Huckabee and Brownback’s failure to appear is an indication that they will be dropping out soon?

***Ron Paul and John McCain: surprisingly strong.***

I continue to be impressed with RP’s showing among old time pols. Some more good showings and the argument, about not throwing away your vote because he can’t win, will lose its appeal.

***Fred Thompson and Giuliani: very weak, considering they both made personal appearances and still couldn’t beat Ron Paul.***

And this is a state in which Giuliani was supposed to be strong.

No problem to me, and no offense taken at all. i’m a Ron Paul supporter. The thread only interested me because i once lived in the “Yooper”. i have not read Romney’s speech, nor did i comment upon him as you know.

i do agree with many of your concerns. What i’d really like to see though is TWO brokered conventions. With the Democratic revulsion against Hitlerly, that is entirely likely. Of course, as Bismark once remarked:

“Politics is like making Sausage, it is best that one does not know what goes into it.”

i was up at Soo locks once. Took the ferry across to Sugar Island. Had some friends there. The weather was quite unpleasant, and the wind was blowing in off Superior that day. It was overcast. A good day to be inside, whether in an automobile, or home.

If either Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, or John McCain is the final GOP Presidential choice, then too many conservatives all over the U.S. will end up not voting for the GOP Presidential choice, and Hillary Clinton will win the ‘08 Presidency.

Anyone wanting details about the Chicago rally go to DailyPaul. In the comments about the request for information about the rally, several people who were there talked about it. Seems something like 1200 to 1500+ showed up for the rally and it was a big success.

Wow. I wasn’t aware of Mitt supporters being banned. Can you say who they were? If you’re not comfortable posting it, could you private message me? Thanks.
