The disgusting U.N. is a great issue. A pollster, Luntz?, did an interesting focus group of Conservative republicasn, they ALL wanted to get ou ot the U.N., which years ago was only a belief held by the Birchers. It’s now mainstream among conservative Republicans.
Who cares who said it first...that remark is just plain childish. I swear...Duncan Hunter supporters are the most arrogant people I have ever met on-line and you are only hurting your own candidate because of it.
“Who?”
You know, the guy who’s running for the Republican nomonation with 1% of the vote, or is it 2% now
Fred Thompson/JC Watts in '08
I agree wholeheartedly that having JC Watts on the ticket would be fantastic. He's younger, and outstanding representative of the conservative/libertarian (small "L") view of the world and, of course, he's black. While that should be irrelevant, we live in the real world. Him on the ticket will be a draw to some blacks (or at least an excuse not to stay home because they are disgusted by the choices), and will get others who would otherwise automatically vote "D" to stay home. Yeah, again, it should be irrelevant - but such a choice won't hurt the Republicans or the Thompson ticket. Let's see how the Dems can run the quadrennial "Republicans are racists" ads in such an environment.
Michael Steele would be a good choice for all of the same reasons, plus he has some executive experience (being Lt. Governor).
Oh, "Prosperity. Unity. Security." Great line, but the initials are "pus." We need to do better than that. Since Security is a HUGE concern, move it up to #2, thereby fixing the problem.
Ahem, Revolting cat! said it first!
Ah Guenevere, good to see you holding up your 2% on another thread.
See I said nothing about Hunter.
Though your post does bring to mind the old adage about if a tree falls in the woods....
Yay - good to see our FT making headlines in the MSM.
If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?
Heh, great minds, see post above...
I guess you said it first.
” This is our home soil,” Thompson asserted on Bill Bennett’s “Morning in America” talk radio show Monday morning, adding, “I wouldn’t mind a little controversy at the United Nations.”
I love his subtle humor.
With all due respect to both you and Hunter, it doesn't really matter. Hunter is under 5%, not even at the top of the bottom tier (Huckabee's on top of them at 6%). McStain and Romney are in at about 12%-15%, with Fred leading the pack at 27% over Rudy's 22%. (all courtesy of Rasmussen's polling results published this morning).
I think Hunter is a fine man, and could make for an EXCELLENT President...someday. He needs more fine-tuning, more seasoning, more name recognition. 6 or so years as Thompson's Secretary of Defense will do nicely in that regard (along side of Bolton at State). Too bad he'll probably have to fight Bolton for the Presidency in '16, but that's a choice that I could stomach very well.
I do. One word slogans don't do it for me. I want to know HOW he proposes to bring prosperity, unity and security. Lacking any specifics, I frankly find the slogan somewhat creepy.
I want him to lay out some specifics on what his domestic and foreign policies will look like.
It’s not who said it first, but who was heard, or so it appears;-)
Actually, The Mitt and Rudy supporters are very close seconds.

I had this same conversation a few days ago with a Mittocrit.
Like these are unique ideas that only one person can come up with.
*Sigh*
I’m sure Hunter is THRILLED that Fred is saying it, too, because it NEEDS to be said.
For the life of me, I truly don’t ‘get’ the wish to bring down a strong, conservative voice and message that is resonating enough to make liberals blanch.

~ Ronald Reagan
My preference would be to boot the UN HQ altogether, so that we don’t have host-nation obligations in the first place. Pull out of the UN and help to found a new “United Free Nations” with the likes of the NATO nations, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, etc. Can’t happen anytime soon, for such would require Congress’s approval. I can dream, though, right?
Gotta love this!
