GIULIANI TRIES TO BACKPEDAL ON GUNS . . . Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani addressed gun owners and Second Amendment advocates last week on the same day that NSSF officials were in Giuliani's hometown fighting a lawsuit he filed -- and refuses to disavow -- seeking to hold law-abiding firearms manufacturers responsible for the criminal misuse of their products by others. NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane appeared on MSNBC responding to Giuliani. Play Video | View Transcript

Well the links in the text of the article aren't working. I rarely post an article and am not good at it, so please excuse my mistake. But you can click on the National Shooting Sports Foundation link in the title to read the interview. Or click HERE for the video.

(Fingers crossed hoping my link works so I don't look like a total klutz)

Explain please. Are you saying Rudy isn’t backpedaling on guns, or that the article isn’t what the title says it is?

CANDIDATES SPEAK AT NRA CONFERENCE IN D.C. . . . Four presidential candidates attended, two others sent along video messages. The NRA's "Celebration of American Values" Conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday was a chance for presidential hopefuls to explain where they stand on gun-related issues and why gun owners and the firearms industry should stand behind them. Republican candidates Rudy Giuliani, John McCain, Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee spoke at the conference, while Mitt Romney and Democratic candidate Bill Richardson sent along video messages that were played for those in attendance.

What did they have to say?

John McCain: "A number of big-city mayors decided it was more important to blame the manufacturers of a legal product than it was to control crime in their own cities. Fortunately, we were able to protect manufacturers from these frivolous lawsuits."

Fred Thompson: "My relation with you folks can be summed up very shortly: check the record."

Mitt Romney (by video): "I support the Second Amendment as one of the most basic and fundamental rights of every American." (How well did he support the 2nd Amendment as governor of the People's Republic of Massachusetts?)

Rudy Giuliani: Explaining why he initiated New York City's lawsuit blaming firearms manufacturers for the criminal misuse of guns, he said, "At the time, what I was doing during the time that I was mayor was taking advantage of every law and every interpretation of every law that I could think of to reduce crime." Adding, "I think that lawsuit has gone in a direction that I probably don't agree with at the moment." ( Translation, "I probably don't agree with it at the moment because I want your votes you dimwitted knuckle-dragging gun nuts")

Mike Huckabee: "There are no geographical boundaries or restrictions [to the Second Amendment] . . . It's absurd . . . that a right would be different in different places."

Fred Thompson: "My relation with you folks can be summed up very shortly: check the record."

The record shows that Fred voted pro-gun on every gun-related bill that came to the Senate while he was a US Senator, and that he got a A rating from NRA.

Not to say that an NRA A rating means all that much anymore, but at least he voted 100% pro-gun.

I have $20 that says the NRA endorses ROOOTY.

I wouldn't take that bet if it was for bottle caps instead of dollars. I didn't renew my NRAmembership this year for the first time since I joined in 1968 when the NRA actually stood up and fought for our 2nd A rights instead of compromising them away.

If Rudy wins the nomination and the NRA DOESN'T endorse him I MAY renew, but not it he get's that endorsement. When it comes to guns I don't trust Rudy any more than I trust Hillary.

Why do you think they will endorse Rudy? His gun rights record is horrible, and his idiotic display in front of the NRA crowd a few days ago should have sealed his doom.

It would be suicide for the NRA to support Rudy over Fred.

From the MSNBC Tucker Carlson interview with the USSF attorney:

CARLSON: huh. what do you think the response from ordinary gun owners is going to be to what he says?

KEANE: when they learn that he made comments calling nra members extreme and claiming the industry engages in immoral and illegal activities, they will look at his record and see that he has a history of being hostile to gun owners, hostile to the second amendment. he has a very curious view of the second amendment. he apparently thinks the second amendment is different, depending on whether you live in manhattan or montana. and that's not simply -- simply not the case. that's not how the founding fathers wrote the constitution. your second amendment rights are the same whether you live in manhattan or you live in montana.

CARLSON: i assume that would also apply to the rest of your rights in the bill of rights. say the first amendment. your right to free speech.

KEANE: or fourth amendment.

Save your $. Not going to happen unless the NRA is planning to go out of business post election. They certainly will be unable to raise another dime, so that would be the only reason they would do it.
