The real message spoken today at the UN: Iranian president Mamoud Ahmadinjad preached today at the United Nations bloviating about wanting to effectuate truth, justice, harmony and interestingly, monotheism to this world. His sermon focused on two fundamental points:
* Irans sovereign right to build nukes and * The arrogant Ones need to convert to Islam or face death
Yes, this is what he said in his Yasser Arafat sort of way. Remember Yasser who died of AIDS? Arafat would speak and the world would stop in their tracks and listen, but what were they hearing? The closet gay Arafat would speak in postmodern Arabic which meant something totally different in English. The Quran (roll your tongue when you say Quran), gives them permission to lie and deceive to achieve the desired results which is ultimate conquesttrue imperialism from their book of love.

Not many were picking up on this, but it came through loud and clear to me. Nothing else that he said is of any consequence, but he has “invited” the world to islam. Also, he invoked the 12th imam at the end.
Think I will take my chances with Jesus.
The invitation is required, before they slit your throat. This is a declaration of intent.
BUAIDH NO BAS, is mine.
What if 13 imams show up?
Bad luck?
Or (horrors) what if NONE ever do appear?
Does the koran cover that possibility?
And what if the Christians and Jews just kick moslem butt?
:)
Best Defense Attorney in town. Makes all the other Lawyers look awful. And He never lost a case.
This afternoon, Fox news had on an expert in reading body language talking about Mahmoud’s speech. I only caught it as background noise while working. Anger, barely contained was what caught my ear. Anyone else catch this spot? It does seem kind of like his come-to-Allah moment, his invitation to us, despite his efforts to conceal his strong emotions. I wonder what he’ll tell his people of this trip...
Folks at the live thread caught it but the talking heads on TV are ignoring it.
Leprous little lemurs should be careful of what they wish for..
amen to that. I die before I switch.
I rather make them die and not switch!
Allahu Fubar, Nutjob.
A monster lies in wait for me
A stew of wounds and misery
But fiercer still in life and limb
the me that lies in wait for him
And see my tag line....
HEAR HEAR
see my post above!
He was making me sick, with those little pig eyes and that smirk...however, I wondered if a fundamentalist Christian Head of State spoke in the same manner, would the press give him a pass?
THIS JUST IN: the Earth is changing shape, films taken by the Space Shuttle show that the earth is becoming a CUBE shape... very BIZARRE.
(it's sarcasm for those of you who are not old comic book fans)
Official Portrait of Iranian President Ahm-a-hand-jahb.
His first words were, ( in the audio translation ) “Oh God hasten the arrival of the Imam Al Mahdi and grant him good health and victory, and make us his followers and those who attest to his rightfulness.” An incomplete thought as it stands, the fault of the translation I suppose. I also assume it’s some sort of formula, but its significance is absolutely serious. It means that everything he says is subsidiary to this millenarian vision.
The main body of his remarks to the assembly were on Science and Scholarship as the “greatest gift of God” - a seemingly innocuous sentiment, and not worthy of any sort of press notice, but in these remarks he makes clear, if you listen, that these pursuits are to be constrained by religious authority, which means the ayatollahs. Of course, he is very far from making any concession to ecumenicalism.
I don’t think he is being devious or misleading in any of this. His invocation makes his platform unmistakable, and we shouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t hit the audience over the head with an admonition to convert. He is presuming the result, and so much the worse for you if you fail to submit.
I was watching his hands.
I have never seen hands do that before.
He kept tucking his thumbs into his palms as to rub something.
I picked that up as well as did more people than you likely think. Listening to the translator I noticed how he danced around making sure to mention “the Prophets”, etc. He specifically placed Mohammad last. He was definitely trying to put people at ease, but I doubt he fooled many people. Enlighten me if you would. The 12th Imam?
An eschatological figure (somewhat tangentially analogous to the Messianic figure of Christianity or Judaism) to some Muslims. They believe he will be ushered in by world chaos to bring peace (read: Islamic Caliphate). I believe the Dirty Yak phrased it as "the promised One" towards the end of the speech. The "twelvers" believe they can usher in the Mahdi (12th Imam) by fomenting violence and chaos. The knowledge of this transforms his little religious formulations from simple recitation into something far more troubling. Thus, almost no one is talking about it.
Can you imagine if George Bush started his speeches with "May Jesus come quickly and make us all His own" or some such formulation?
