No , just stating that I’m sick and tired of this above the law cr*p and the “us vs. them” attitude that seems to be prevalent among le personnel ,, they call us “civilians” as if that’s a put down while not realizing that they are civilians themselves and have an obligation to conduct themselves accordingly.
You’re welcome.
“Should we be given breaks on tickets that normal people would be given a break?
“Yes.”
I would like to call you a Nazi over that comment, but I will refrain.
“
If you read my post CAREFULLY, you might find I was quoting someone else. So, I’ll refrain from calling you a knee-jerk reactionary who jumps to emotionally based conclusions. In other words, a liberal.
You thought wrong.
An understandable (// heavy sarcasm) mistake, but generally indicative of an ignorance of exactly which laws a LEO can lawfully attempt to “enforce” without a specific court order to do so.
And also which laws a LEO is expected to enforce, if he/she observes an actual transgression in progress.
If city, county and state cops actually had the authority to arbitrarily enforce any written “law” above their specific legal jurisdictions...we would have an Islamic, Taliban style LEO system.
Is your personal “need for speed” on public highways on which I also travel, worth that kind of accommodation?
ie... a LEO might know that there is a “law” against restaurants having filthy restrooms.
The LEO can cite/report the restaurant to the local governing authority, but he/she can’t decide to haul the owner to jail, when the LEO observes the obvious transgression of the “law” against a restaurant offering filthy bathrooms to the public.
I understand. People are tribal/clannish for a variety of reasons. Cops are the same way. It’s tribal more than us vs. them. You identify with people of the same background, experiences, knowledge, etc than someone who does not have those things. Calling citizens “civilians” isn’t a put down. It’s an identifier that the individual being called a civilian isn’t a part of the tribe or affiliated in any way.
I have been called a lot of things, but never a liberal.
What does any of that have to do with keeping the peace?
We pay the cops (government) money (via taxes) because we(obviously excepting you) do not want to be a mindless tribal/sectarian based society.
I can easily flex into supporting and forcefully suppressing an anti-USA,libertarian/demonic/chaotic world view.
Does that frighten you?
It should.
