And believe it or not, media too as they often have close contacts with police. I was in broadcasting for years and was on the receiving end of the "courtesy" several times and was happy to accept it.
Its called officers discretion.
And I can also say I’ve benefited from that discretion, and I am not related to any law enforcement. I would rather a Officer be free to move onto real CRIMINALS.(Mark Levin moment).
Cop courtesies are also extended to civilians, as well as LE.
******************************
HEY THERE ; Cops ARE Civilians ... and they should be reminded of it every time they pull this LE is above it all crap.
A C-17 configured for passengers aint all that bad.
This is a good point of view to see.
I believe in professional courtesy, but my first reaction to it was extremely negative. It conjured up notions of corruption and elitism until I thought about what cops do.
Like the site says, they deal with the worst of us, are lied to and fought with constantly. I admire any officer who can spend 5 years in the force and have the mental and moral strength not to come away completely racist and jaded against people.
I don’t have a problem with officers extending each other an occasional professional courtesy, I do think those who believe they can endanger other motorists constantly and are entitled to unlimited grace from traffic laws should not be extended this courtesy. I would assume other officers know who these jerks are too. I think the main deciding factors should be how much of an ass they are, how blatantly they badge the on duty officer and how dangerous they are driving.
With all that being said, this site is a major mistake and the jerks who put it up and contribute should be deemed persona non grata with regards to any future graces.
Depends on the Cop...about 15 years a go my wife was an RN in a premature baby unit at North Shore Hospital on Long Island. A premmie she had been trying to pull through for a couple of weeks died in her care....she was devastated and at 5:00AM, after her shift had ended, she was heading home on a Sunday morning on a near deserted highway. She was in her nurse garb and traveling 10 miles an hour over the speed limit. A cop pulled her over and in tears she told him what happened.
The F’n prick had the nerve to tell her that is why life is so important and she should slow down so she could make sure to safe guard her own...He returned to his squad car, made her sit there and cry for about 15 minutes, returned to her and gave her a ticket.
What a piece of Sh!t this cop was and if she ever recognizes him, ever, I have a score to settle with the piece of human garbage.
Denver cops are way up there on the corruption list. Or so Ive been told by 2 retired Denver cops and anybody whos lived there.
Yes they can be buttholes of the highest and most puckered order!
Agree with an earlier post about liking “police” but not liking “the police”. Too swaggering, a troubling tendency to fall back on combination persecution and hero complex. And damned little accountability.
Professional courtesy is pure sophistry but is pure corruption. Does not the law apply equally to all? Cops should have to follow the law — taken to its logical absurdity, at what point does professional courtesy end?
I remember one episode of “Wildest Police Videos” where one cop stops an off-duty cop for speeding. The off-duty cop refuses to provide a drivers license, gets out of the car, and starts fighting.
I usually feel sorry for the cops. School teachers make a lot more money, cops have to watch the courts screw up all their hard work, and people treat them like crap.
No wonder they’re looking for perks.
“Should we be given breaks on tickets that normal people would be given a break?
Yes.
Is it fair?
No, but when is life ever fair.”
Dumb. Just dumb.
“It’s ONLY A TICKET! “
Then pay the fine and the increased insurance costs like the rest of us “civilians”.
I call it corruption. Today a cop thinks he should get away with not paying traffic fines, tomorrow he thinks he can kill someone and get away with it because he’s a cop.
“So cops that let Mr. citizen off for speeding is corrupt? Its called officers discretion. “
A citizen doesn’t EXPECT to get off as a cop does. So, yes, cops EXPECTING to get off is corruption.
“School teachers make a lot more money”
No, they don’t. Where I live a cop starts at $48,000. A school teacher starts at $36,000.
"Cops know you pay taxes and that your taxes pay cops salaries. Cops also pay taxes, which also pay cops salaries so, hey, this traffic stop is on me. Now sign here, press hard; there are five copies."
LOL!
Cops have a very tough job to do. One thing that will always help is if they will be humble enough to realize and admit that sometimes they're just wrong. It happens to everyone, so just accept it.
speeding and seatbelt laws are laws that are deemed criminal before a real crime happens... “for the safety of society”, to “prevent injurty to others”... instead of making the penalties for such accidents and accidental deaths what they should be, setting fines for behavior that may lead to such outcomes brings in more money...
don’t let anyone try to tell you that it ain’t all about the money...
teeman
We got stopped once, pretty loaded, and the cop said, "I was going to write you up, but I see you're with us."
I just grinned and went on my way, realizing only later what had just happened.
I know of an instance where a state cop let an officer from a small town within the state go even though the town cop was DUI.
I was recently tailgated by a cop while driving right at the speed limit.
I appreciate your statement that everyone even cops can be wrong and just need to admit it. I don’t care about speeding tickets at all. I want police in Seward NE to enforce child rape protection laws better than they have in the past. Do you have any advice on getting cops to do something about pedos there? This is a cop site right? Why did the cop say, “oh no not him” in reference to John Walsh guy? Why don’t cops in NE support John Walsh and his code Adam at Walmart plan? I am free due to that discretion clause, so I support that.
