Senate to consider ratification of U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty
One News Now ^ | September 27, 2007 | Chad Groening

A national defense analyst says it's absolutely crazy that Pentagon officials will push the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to recommend the quick ratification of the U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty.

Cliff Kincaid, president of America's Survival, has already expressed his concerns that the Chinese have been using their huge trade advantage with the U.S. to build up their navy, while the U.S. Navy plans to further reduce the number of ships in its fleet. (See earlier article) But Kincaid says instead of changing course and rebuilding to counter the Chinese threat, top Naval officials, including Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Mike Mullen, want to depend on a piece of paper to keep America secure.

"We've got U.S. Navy leaders who are going before the Senate of the United States telling them rather than build more ships we need to sign a treaty. [They're saying] we need to ratify the so-called U.N. Law of the Sea Treaty. Frankly, I don't see how a piece of paper from the U.N. -- an anti-American agency to boot -- is going to help us," he laments.

Kincaid states by taking that route, the U.S. would be putting its security in the hands of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. "We're simply going to get out-voted, and all the decisions under this International Law of the Sea Tribunal are going to go against us. It's simply craziness. It's worse than that -- it's a delusion. And yet this is [what's staring us] in the face now," he says.

According to Kincaid all the witnesses at the September 27 hearing are pro-treaty. He says another hearing is scheduled to follow and a quick Senate vote on the pact is then predicted.

"Too bad Jesse Helms is out of office !"

Was he the only one?

Is there no other possible Congressman or Senator who we could trust to take charge of this?

Is the memory of Jesse Helms the only hope for freedom in this country?

This saddens me more than I can say right now.

To hear that the only possible savior of America has gone and left office, never to help us anymore. And here we sit, hopeless and alone waiting for the reincarnation of Jesse Helms to reappear in the Senate and send those U.N. commies running for the tall grass.

Heaven help us all.

DUNCAN HUNTER

The rest don't seem to want to talk about it.

#13. Do you support the Law of the Sea Treaty? If not, will you revoke it if it passes before you take office?

Hunter: No, in the past I have opposed the Law of the Sea Treaty. I expect that to continue. There are serious issues of sovereignty involved, and as in the past, I have no intention of letting US sovereignty be eroded.

O.K., but then I'll go you one better; Dr. Ron Paul, who not only would not support LOST, but actually strikes at the very heart of the problem.

Of course, I realize True, Genuine FReepers don't listen to Ron Paul, therefore also don't realize he was lead sponsor of HR 1146 "The American Sovreignty Restoration Act".

Listen to the testimony from this site if you can. At least listen to Sen. Ritter from about 1:59 to 2:07. He has more questions later also. The Treaty is not all that it appears to be.
