No one should take seriously an article written by Squid Blumenthal, and published on Salon. (I thought Salon had dropped through the floor and disappeared financially, like Air America will when it runs out of liberal suckers with a million dollars to waste.)
There are far more honest, and well-written pieces on this subject, including the one below which appeared on FR and several other points around the Net.

The idea that CBS News is a tool of the Bush administration, or played down the Abu Ghraib scandal, is laughable on its face. Blumenthal was one of the biggest scumbags in the Clinton administration, and he hasn’t changed a bit.

As I said in my article this week, as soon as I read Buckhead's famous comment on FR I smacked my forehead and said, "Of course he's right. These are forgeries." I also have a background in print media publications.
Like a couple other "experts" who checked in on or through Little Green Footballs the following morning, I had sufficient background to recognize why these documents allegedly from the 70s could not have been produced except in a well-financed print shop of that day.
Now, with computers and their typesetting programs, and laser printers for the output, those 70s' memos can be produced by anyone, anywhere, including all Air National Guard offices in the known universe. The flip back and forth graphic shows exactly that.
But not even the most expensive and sophisticated IBM Selectrics (which the TANG did not have anyway), could have produced those memos.
Kudos to Buckhead because he was the first to spot the forgeries. Not because he was prepared by Rove to make the attack, but because he was armed with the facts and he paid attention to the details.
AFTER Buckhead, I saw the same thing. However, my connection with Karl Rove is that I've seen him a few times on TV. LOL.

OK, so what’s new? Dan Rather has always stood by his stories, no matter how false, fake and anit-American they were.

They've said that the former anchor is "sad," "pathetic," "a loser," on an "ego" trip and engaged in a mad gesture "no sane person" would do, and that "no one in his right mind would keep insisting that those phony documents are real and that the Bush National Guard story is true." And they were only getting started! (Appropriately so!)
I think he's a sniveling whiner, myself. And a darn poor journalist when it came to the subject at hand.

Anyone taking odds that this will EVER go to trial? I think CBS will settle rather than reveal the depths of their collusion with the DNC in coordinating the “Fortunate Son” advertisement buy with the bogus document release by See.B.S..
I think Gunga Dan is crazy like a fox. They will settle for an undisclosed sum is my prediction.
