WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday that every child born in the United States should get a $5,000 "baby bond" from the government to help pay for future costs of college or buying a home. Clinton, her party's front-runner in the 2008 race, made the suggestion during a forum hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus

As long as it comes from her bank account, no problem.

Just imagine all the illegals running across the border with an anchor baby to win this $5,000 prize.

Doesn’t the Hildebeast realize this would also benefit conservative parents who raise conservative children? How can you take advantage of this vote buying scheme when you are a liberal having abortions?

Shameful ...

This is the most moronic idea I’ve heard in a while. Also notice that actually paying out doesn’t come around until AFTER she’s left office.

So, I think maybe 4.1M babies times $5,000 = $20,500,000,000,000

Think you have 3 too many 0's.

CIA puts birth rate at 14.16 per 1000 per year. Est 301M pop makes 2007 births 4,262,160. Births X 5K = $21,310,800,000 for 2007.

That doesn't include admin costs which will be higher then your average private organization charity.

I was thinking the same thing, but I believe the promise was “$1000 to every man, woman and child in America.” McGovern was made a laughing stock for suggesting it, just as Hillary should.

AND we criminalize people who refused to smoke and make them pay TRIPPLE fines for NOT smoking!

Not sure that needs a /s tag. There was an article here at FR about a guy that got charged with avoiding paying gas taxes because he converted his car to run on something besides gasoline. Think was cooking oil but can't remember for sure.

Leave it to Hillary to get it wrong on a number of levels once again.

The number one problem with this is the idea that big government would be paying out money for another cause. On that point I believe there are justified objections.

On another point, it may make sense. And on that point, I might actually increase the amount.

Right now we are importing people from around the world that have no commonality with U.S. citizens. Our culture is being stressed because of this. To me it makes more sense to incentivize our citizens to have more offspring. If increased numbers are the goal (and I do believe it to be an important one), lets grow them at home.

Now, does Hillary’s plan incentivise? How many infants are going to be induced to jump out of the womb to get that $5 thousand dollars? LMAO, Hillary... give the money to the parents if you want to incentivize. And by all means, increase the amount to $11 thousand dollars.

Okay folks, I know what you are thinking. Now, explain to me which costs less, to birth our own children and let the parents support them, or bring in foreign nationals that will sap the nation dry at ten times the rate per single year?

The $11 thousand dollars would be paid out as follows. $3 thousand would be paid out at birth, to offset costs. $3 thousand would be paid out when the child entered kindergarten (age 5 or 6), IF and only IF the parents had not received any other government assistance during the child’s life. Another $5 thousand would be paid out as the child graduated from the eighth grade, IF and only IF the parents had not received any other government assistance during the child’s life.

She must really think Americans are stupid

Unfortunately, ladiesview, she is correct on that one and counting on it to propel her back to the White House.

How much will $5,000 buy in 17 years? Probably won’t even cover the books you will need for 4 years of college.

I don't believe the current college model will be around in 17 years, anyway -- except for people pursuing technical or advanced career skills.

College is already delivering too little value, at an wildly unaffordable price, and offering too small an ROI. The trend cannot sustain itself for another 17 years.

That's right. Now let's take it a couple of steps further. US tax returns filed last year =133 million, of which about 54% pay any income taxes at all, so let's call it 72 million affected taxpayers. That's an average cost of $285 per household return per year, but of course some of us pay higher marginal rates than others. Regardless, it's just another centralized big-government got-you-by-the-you-know-what scheme.

Hehehe She's a few apples short of a bushel.

Does she think that if the goobermint pays off the kids with a baby bond, that they will be indebted to the government when it comes time to vote when they turn 18?

What a maroon!

Put the $5,000 into a retirement account, provide that recipients couldn’t touch it until age 67, and then abolish Social Security. I’d be tempted to vote for that.
