UK whites a minority in London classrooms

White British-born children are now the minority in many London schools, official figures showed today.

In Tower Hamlets, 15 per cent of primary school pupils are classed as white British, while 63 per cent of their classmates come from Bangladeshi families.

Tories said the figures, released by the Department for Children, Schools and Families, showed the changes were putting pressure on schools, which had to make sure those who did not speak English learned as soon as possible.

Conservative immigration spokesman Damian Green said: "If they can't, and they are being taught in overcrowded classrooms, this makes it much harder for teachers to do their job."

While Asians now make up the majority

Indians break class barriers in UK

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1294956.cms

LONDON: Second-generation Indian immigrants are breaking their adopted country’s class barriers with consistent ease and steaming ahead of much of white, black and brown Britain, new research has found.

The research, which tracked 140,000 children born in England and Wales over a 30-year period, found that a massive 56 per cent second-generation Indians sailed over class barriers and went into professional or managerial posts, compared with just 43 per cent of white children.

In a further breakdown of what it called the “Indian success story”, the study added that Being Hindu or Jewish enhanced the probability of a professional/managerial class outcome, other things being equal, while being Muslim, Sikh or from a religious group other than the main religions made such a destination less likely”.

However, the study admitted that today’s immigrant successes could not discount the reality and dreadful toll of the so-called “ethnic penalty” levied on newer, foreign-origin claimants for jobs and positions.

The research said two-thirds of British Pakistani and Bangladeshi children remained static and at the same working class levels of their parents, thus languishing at the bottom of the UK’s social and economic mobility ladder.

The study, commissioned by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and conducted by Essex University sociologist Dr Lucinda Platt, is considered one of the most comprehensive attempts to track ethnic minority “life chances” in the world of Western opportunity. Platt concluded that the differing levels of South Asian success makes for caution “in what we claim for ‘ethnicity’ and what we attribute to it”.

Platt said it was indisputable that British Indians were taking full advantage of the fact that an expansion in professional and managerial occupations over the past 30 years had created more “room at the top”. But she cautioned that the “welcome progress” of Indians and Afro-Caribbeans was “no cause for complacency (because) Britain is still a long way from being a meritocracy where social class plays no part in determining children’s chances of well-paid careers”.

While Asians now make up the majority of young children in several areas of London, others remain overwhelmingly white.

Not for long. The UK's "Immigration Diversity Program" leaves ours here in the U.S. in the dust. ...although we're doing our utmost to close the gap.

But Hillary is going to give a $5000 bond to every baby born in the US, so we'll be fine.

GCSE performance

Ethnicity & Identity

In 2004 Chinese pupils were the most likely to achieve five or more GCSE grades A*-C in England, with 79 per cent of Chinese girls and 70 per cent of Chinese boys respectively. Indian pupils had the next highest achievement levels: 72 per cent of Indian girls and 62 per cent of Indian boys achieved these levels.

The lowest levels of GCSE attainment were among Black Caribbean pupils, particularly boys. Only 27 per cent of Black Caribbean boys and 44 per cent of Black Caribbean girls achieved five or more A*-C grade GCSEs. Pupils from the Black African, Other Black and Mixed White and Black Caribbean groups had the next lowest levels of attainment.

Within each ethnic group a higher proportion of girls than boys achieved five or more GCSE grades A*-C (or equivalent).

School exclusions
In 2003/04 pupils from Black Caribbean, Other Black and Mixed White and Black Caribbean groups were among the most likely to be permanently excluded from schools in England.

The permanent exclusion rates for pupils from the Other Black, Black Caribbean and Mixed White and Black Caribbean groups were 42 pupils per 10,000, 41 per 10,000 and 37 per 10,000 respectively. These were up to three times the rate for White pupils (14 pupils per 10,000). Chinese and Indian pupils had the lowest exclusion rates, at 2 or less pupils excluded per 10,000.

For all ethnic groups, the rate of permanent exclusions was higher for boys than girls, with boys representing around 80 per cent of the total number of permanent exclusions.

Highest qualification
In 2004 people from the Bangladeshi, Black Caribbean and Pakistani groups were less likely than White British people to have a degree (or equivalent).
Among men, Bangladeshis and Black Caribbeans were the least likely to have a degree (11 per cent for each group). Among women, Bangladeshis and Pakistanis were the least likely to have a degree, 5 and 10 per cent respectively.

The groups most likely to have degrees were Chinese (31 per cent), Indian (25 per cent) and White Irish (24 per cent). These compared with 17 per cent of White British people. However, a relatively high proportion of Chinese people had no qualifications – 20 per cent, compared with 15 per cent of White British people.

Bangladeshis and Pakistanis were the most likely to be unqualified. Five in ten (49 per cent) Bangladeshi women and four in ten (40 per cent) Bangladeshi men had no qualifications. Among Pakistanis, 35 per cent of women and 29 per cent of men had no qualifications.

The chart showing people with no qualification is shown as a proportion of all the working age population (males aged 16-64, females aged 16-59).

The British have allowed themselves to be overrun. They have lost their country. Enoch Powell was right. And we are on the same path.

Little bit of gloating there, CAS?

Perhaps you could explain to the Rubes the meaning of the Orwellian term "positive discrimination" and its effect on British employment.

A different set of tests in a different part of the world...and still the same academic achievement patterns. Be prepared for the leftists to use this disparity as an excuse to spend money to try to "fix" it. That tired excuse has been used for 40 years with no change in the results.

Including the propped-up Bangladeshis and Pakistanis, the protected class of British society, who still end up scraping the bottom of the barrel there?

‘The British have allowed themselves to be overrun. They have lost their country. Enoch Powell was right. And we are on the same path.’

The figures in the report are for London, not for Britain. Britains population is 92.9% white anglo saxon celtic christian in origin - a far higher proportion than the US is. America is far more overrun than Britain is.

But calling them part of British society is stretching it, now isn't it?

Down from 99.9% in 1950. And for the prior 18,000 years, from the last glacial maximum.

‘Question! Are private and religious schools flourishing in the UK?’

Yes, a third of all UK state schools are now faith schools. The vast majority are CofE, then Catholic followed by a few Jewish and muslim ones. The govt are duty bound to fund religious schools in the UK providing there is sufficient local need for them. They also tend to perform better than non-faith schools, though in Britain, all states schools must include religion to some degree, usually religious education classes and hymns at assembly.

Private (where the parent pays fees for their child to attend) schools are also popular.
