'Sacked maid kidnapped Madeleine to get back at bosses'
Daily Mail ^ | 9/30/07

Police are investigating a tip-off that Madeleine McCann was kidnapped by a bitter ex-employee of the Mark Warner Ocean Club where the family were staying in Praia da Luz.

The tip-off - which was sent to the Prince of Wales's website - claimed that the three-year-old was abducted by a former employee of the Mark Warner holiday complex in Portugal.

It described the kidnap as a maid's "revenge" after being sacked.

"There have been hundreds of Madeleine theories, sighting and tips sent in from members of the public. But this one is different," a police source told the News Of The World.

"It's incredibly detailed and so far, from the inquiries being made in Portugal, it appears to be based on factual events.

"This could be very significant."

It is thought the maid is Portuguese and that she was sacked and left the complex on "bad terms".

The email, which is believed to have been prompted by the Prince's backing for Kate and Gerry McCann, was immediately reported to Scotland Yard who contacted Portuguese detectives working on the case

The Prince and the Duchess of Cornwall issued a statement soon after Madeleine went missing on May 3 saying that they were following the case "closely and with deep concern".

The McCanns' spokesman Clarence Mitchell said that the couple are encouraged by any development "that brings focuse firmly on to finding Madeleine".

It has also emerged that an independent forensic team from the UK has stripped the McCanns' hire car.

The forensic scientists - who spent more than nine hours examining the vehicle - have been hired by the McCanns to rubbish Portuguese police "evidence".

The Renault has been at the centre of the detectives' claims against the couple since they were both named as arguidos at the beginning of the month.

Portuguese newspapers reported that DNA found in the car boot indicated Madeleine's blood, hair and bodily fluids.

The car had been garaged at the home of John Geraghty, a friend of the McCanns, near Praia da Luz.

A source said the team "took as many samples as possible".

"It was an extremely thorough job."

The car has since been returned to the Budget rental company at Faro Aiport.

British scientists who carried out tests on the car for the Portuguese police have said their results have been "twisted".

The Forensic Science Service in Birmingham is reported to have written to the detectives complaining that they had "wildly misused" their findings.

Today the family are marking 150 days since Madeleine disappeared.

If this turns out to be true, the police/media have a lot of apologizing to do to those parents accusing them of murdering their own child.

But no, they're the Keystone Cops and LameMedia, so they don't apologize for ruining people's lives with false accusations.

I thought, on average, Euro-cops were just plain bad, but this must take the cake.

I also thought one of the first questions a complete investigation would ask is:

May we have a list of ex-employees - say, going back a year.

Have you gotten any nasty emails, letters, etc?

And so on.

Wonder what the truth of the hair, blood, and body fluids found in the trunk of the car that was reported to be from a decomposing body really was????

The Portuguese police have been stung for months by the (well deserved) criticism in the British press. And now the Portuguese police are trying to blame the parents, using 'evidence' from a car rented 5 weeks after Madeline's disappearance.

With relations between the British and Portuguese police so bad, is there any chance that the Portuguese maid will be found and just possibly, that the fate of the child will be known?

Is it clear whether the maid would have been an employee of the McCann's or an employee of the hotel? An employee of the hotel (former) would be in the area, I suppose. But would a former employee of the McCanns be in the area? Would she have been fired while on the trip?

I'm not sure I get it.

Would a former employee of the hotel kidnap a child guest to make her employers look bad? Sure, I guess. But now you've got a kidnapped child on your hands. What's next?

Would she have planned to allow the child to be found and maybe something went wrong? It's awfully complicated and not very personal (in the way that an employee of the McCanns kinapping their child would be). Easier to talk down the hotel and her bosses on internet message boards, really.

That tape made me doubt them too. I can see why they became persons of interest.

As with most news stories these days, this one is as poorly written as the rest.

I took it to mean the maid worked for them and left under “bad” circumstances - vowing revenge.

I would not pretend to know or understand women, despite being married for 3+ decades. But when someone says they will get revenge, well, I would put them at the top of my list for a nice long chat.

The maid worked for the resort in Portugal. That much is clear from another article on the story.

I think the maid was an employee of the hotel.

Yeah, but to do any of that as only a by product of trying to get revenge on your employer seems a bit much.

People do bizarre and incomprehensible things every day of the week, so it could be.
