Voting rights on docket for Supreme Court term (Also DC Gun Law)

Justices will also consider D.C. gun law, constitutionality of lethal injections

During the U.S. Supreme Court's new term beginning Monday, the justices will consider the fundamental issue of who is allowed to vote just in time for 2008's pivotal presidential elections.

The docket also includes a challenge to the Bush administration's war on terror, a question over the constitutionality of lethal injections and a test of a strict gun law, which could lead to a clarification of the Second Amendment.

The Supreme Court will hear a challenge to an Indiana law imposed two years ago that requires voters to show photo IDs at the polls. Steve Carter, the state's attorney general, said the law is important to prevent cheating.

Media bias alert: They refer to the case as a “voting rights” issue rather than a “voter fraud” issue.

I hope the report is right, but it is coming from MSNBC so we’ll need another source to make sure this correct.

It will be nice to have a decision on the 2nd Amendment, either good or bad, so we can plan accordingly.

...and a test of a strict gun law, which could lead to a clarification of the Second Amendment.

Well, let’s see. In Socialist-speak, “clarification” means an adjustment that would TAKE AWAY GUN RIGHTS of the law-abiding public. The libs are “deathly” afraid of the Second Amendment for the EXACT REASON it was put in the Bill of Rights. Their efforts to disarm, and de-power the American public continue to be in line with their socialist agenda.

I’m a Hoosier, and I have always showed my ID when voting.

In California, poll workers are strictly prohibited from asking for identification. The only case where they can ask for identification is if someone shows up to vote, and their name isn't on the voter roll and they request a provisional ballot.

Either way, a clear decision will be checkmate for somebody.

No further moves after checkmate.

I do hope that we prevail in a clear and binding manner that rests on the overarching and undergirding principles upon which the Constitution was framed, and upon which we stand.

Yes. There was another National Socialist Workers Party that did exactly that not too long ago.

Bad timing. With this court the 2nd loses 5-4.

May I ask a couple of questions? Are you required to show ID? What type of ID? What happens if you come to the polls without the proper ID?

Thank you,

The link speaks of one DC resident seeking the right to keep a handgun in his home for self defense.

Actually, there were six DC residents who were part of the case. It was assisted by the libertarian Cato Institute.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true.
