African-American Enrollment in Law Schools Declines

by: Emmanuel Opati, October 03, 2007

There is increasing concern about enrollment decline of African-American male students in higher education and specifically Law Schools. Speaking in Washington, D.C at the Congressional Black Caucus forum last week, Chris Brown, General Motors (GM) Vice President General Counsel for North America, said there is need for diversity in the legal profession both in schools and law firms.

He said diversity is part and parcel of GM policy. “General Motors was the first corporation to have a minority supplies program and a minority dealer program”, he added.

At the same event, which was part of the 37th Annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucus, U.S. Representative Stephanie Tubbs Jones, Chairman of the House Ethics Committee, said this is a significant issue not only in the practice but also as a role model issue.

It was pointed out that many minority students are being admitted to Law Schools unprepared and that race-based admissions have been set to harm minority students by setting them up for failure.

Ms. Pauline A. Schneider of American Bar Association reported that in 1997/8, a total of 9,800 African-Americans were enrolled in Law Schools in the country. Last year, only 9,500 African-Americans were enrolled—a decline of about 300 students. It was stated that a total of 63 per cent of African-American students were denied admission as compared to 35 per cent of their white counterparts.

Obviously the black students are smart enough to realize that the legal profession is overpopulated right now. Getting a law degree is worth a lot less than it used to be.

“It was pointed out that over-reliance on LSAT scores by many Law Schools has left out many African-American students who have low scores due to lack of resources for adequate preparation.”

And the answer from the left is to admit more under=prepared African-Americans at the expense of properly prepared students of other races. Sounds a lot like racial discrimination to me.

Why do you care what color your lawyer is unless you have a quota? I would only care if my lawyer was effective and efficient.

There’s more money in professional sports and less studying.

Move on, race-baiter. Puppage said nothing about “color” or caring about it.

The percentage of African-American affirmative action law school graduates who cannot pass the bar after repeated attempts is more than three times as high as for white according to one study I saw. Liberals feel good about themselves for affirmative action and then don’t give a damn about the results.

When they use the term ‘diversity’ it really means quotos and set asides. Diversity is the term they use to implement racism - “who can be against diversity??” - puts you on the defensive right away. Diversity is the term that liberals and leftists use to silence us on our morals and values. We should all be proud to not support ‘diversity’ if diversity means to divide us by race and gender.

It’s Bush’s fault. Elect Hillary RC and there won’t be a problem. /s

I see. They can't hack it but it's 'our' fault - again. /sarcasm

That line from the story pissed me off.

My wife studied for the LSAT while we were moving from California to Indiana, right after I was laid off my job. Talk about stressful times.

There is no lack of resources. We had no money for extra aids but a few books. She studied all the time and did extremely well. Next spring she will graduate.

Its the lack of effort and the lack of preparedness by the test taker that is the problem.

"African American enrollment in law schools decline"

We're overrun with illegal aliens. Mosques representing the cult from hell are popping up everywhere. Homos are pushing to make their perversion the norm and I'm really supposed to give a s&@t about this? Chip, chip, chip.

“There’s not a damn thing in the world stopping a black man from reading and studying. Nothing.”

I agree. And, encouraging black people to not study by giving them preferences in admissions without regard to their individual efforts is dysfunctional.

But, the American left has always been about racial discrimination. The only thing that ever changes is which people they think should benefit from the discrimination they support.
