Austin Scott out for today's game
By Kevin Horan
Collegian Staff Writer
Austin Scott, one of Penn State's senior running backs, will not dress for today's game against Iowa because of an unspecified violation of team rules, the team announced this afternoon.
Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson made the announcement shortly before the Nittany Lions' game against Iowa, but would not answer further questions about Scott's long-term status with the team. He deferred all questions to coach Joe Paterno, who is scheduled to speak at the conclusion of today's game.
Scott started the first four games of the 2007 season at running back, but, after several costly fumbles, he was pushed behind senior Rodney Kinlaw on the depth chart for last week's game at Illinois. Scott is currently second on the team in rushing yards, with 302, and has six rushing touchdowns.

Kinlaw runs for career-high 168 yards and 2 TDs as PSU beats Iowa
Your reading comprehension skills leave a lot to be desired - LOL.
He’s a fifth-year guy, ain’t he? If that rhubarb a few months ago got the guys stadium-cleaning detail, Scott must’ve pulled some kind of boner to get an indefinite suspension.
Hopefully folks will not draw any conclusions until the facts are in.
What, did some skanky stripper get stiffed on her payment and cry "rape"?
You can bet a lot of hounds are sniffing all over the place trying to get a scoop on what’s going on. So far - tight lips.
Apparently Scott has gotten out of State College (re Allentown Morning Call who says he’s home with his family). A couple of reports I read said that there would be news conferences this morning - this afternoon - after the game, etc., but as of yet, nothing.
Somebody’s trying to get their ducks in a row before letting out information. They do have a suspect in the assault case. They let that information out to allay fears that someone might be on the loose looking for another victim.
I can’t believe Paterno would drop the hammer on him without good cause. Even if Scott didn’t do anything criminally wrong, and I hope he didn’t, he must’ve blotted his copybook with Paterno but good on the team infraction thing. Sheesh.
Conclusions already drawn (and quartered) in Post 26 link.
Some people learned nothing from Duke.
It's pretty clear that this team lacks the leadership / character players of years past, because they let themselves got down after the Michigan loss. In fact I said last week that the coaching staff has lost this team, and feel the same even after this win. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, role Scott played in that.
That’s why I posted the FWIW. I report, you decide as it were :)
Paterno is known for being manaically nit picky about even the most minor infractions. And once you get on his bad side, it can take years to regain his trust. Scott did some petty, stupid things his freshman year and it’s taken until this year for Paterno to give him a real chance again.
JoePa is also fiercely loyal to his players and would defend them if he thought they were being falsely accused or at least wait until he knew all about the situation before taking further steps. He wouldn’t just throw them out over an accusation as happened in the Duke case.
My hunch is that Scott got drunk and broke curfew and that’s why he was suspended. That’s sufficient enough cause, no questions asked.
We’ll probably know soon if he is the suspect in the assault case and if so, he deserves the benefit of the doubt.
On anything criminal, you bet. So we'll wait and see, and hopefully LE won't be a part of this. But if Scott had his head stuffed firmly up his behind again and violated team rules, I have so sympathy for him. Scott's coach and his team deserved better from Scott. Jeez louise, what is it with some of these young men?!
I second that. As I mentioned, I am acquainted with Scott's HS football career. He was coddled to his detriment because of his athletic talent. His parents moved out of state, yet it was arranged for him to stay here (living with a teacher) so he could finish out his senior year at Parkland. I don't know how they got around that, but they did.
He skipped school often and was a very poor student, but that was taken care of as well. After his senior year football season ended, JoePa came to Parkland to call on him one day. Guess what - he wasn't there - skipped school again.
I knew students who were in school with him and they were highly resentful of all the attention and accolades that were continually being paid to someone who so blatantly stretched the rules and got away with it because of teachers and staff who followed behind him cleaning up his messes.
Now none of the stuff he did was illegal, but what message was he to take with him to college? When he got to PSU, there were players as talented as he was, but respected and followed rules. Those are the players who have been playing ahead of him for the past 4 years.
I do believe in individual responsibility and that someone of Scott's age should know right from wrong, but given the fact that he was aided and abetted in his stupid behavior by adults all through high school, I place some of the blame on those permissive adults. If only a few of those had drawn a line in the sand and told Scott, you cross that line, you're out of here, things for him might have turned out very differently.
“His parents moved out of state, yet it was arranged for him to stay here (living with a teacher)...”
So now “he’s with family”......and that would be out of state, yes? (Texas, right?).......geez, that was quick, huh?
“Austin Scott not playing, he’s with family”

I believe his parents moved from PA to TX while he was in HS, but I don’t know if they still live in TX or have since moved somewhere else.
so you believe he “is with family” close to campus or in Penn, do you?
Update (apparently Scott’s family lives near East Stroudsburg now):
