Risch Running For Senate? (Idaho)

Idaho's Lt. Govenor Jim Risch says he plans on announcing a possible run from Senator Larry Craig's seat early next week.
Risch, a Republican, says Craig's statement about not running in 2008 clears the way for his own announcement.
In April, Risch had said if Craig didn't run, he would. Democrat Larry LaRocco, a former 1st District Congressman, is now the only official candidate. He's been raising hundreds of thousands in campaign cash.
Risch, who served as governor in 2006 after Dirk Kempthorne's was named Interior secretary, says people have been encouraging him to run.
He says, "I owe all those people an answer. They will have it early next week."

What’s the Lt. Gov. like? Will he be an improvement over Craig?

This will hopefully get Larry Craig out of the spotlight momentarily.

In his personal life, definitely. And he seems to be good on border seecurity. My only concern is his age (65 y/o).

Maybe Craig and barney frankfurter will run on a fusion ticket? Or was that “fused” ticket?

I guess this Craig thing has really upset the fine folks of ID who have just been rubberstamping those “friendly” incumbents for so long. And UT is worse: they rubberstamp Orrin G. Hatch, the EMK apologist. Well, every state has its problems.

His age shouldn’t be a problem. He may not be planning to make the Senate his “life’s work”.

We need a real commitment on borders from all these candidates . I was surprised with Craig’s vote for shamnesty , some say we should have known about his other proclivities . I guess we ask flat out will you close the borders and stay inside the borders of your own stall ?

Any insights on how conservative this guy is and how high he sets the ethical bar for himself would be useful! Thanks for any posts.

Jim Risch lost any possibility of garnering my support when he endorsed Mitt Romney.
The same applies to any politician who has endorsed Mitt Romney, the most liberal Governor in America’s history.
I’ll find someone else, even if I have to recruit them myself.

Precious Willard is dreadful, but I wouldn’t call him the most liberal in American history. His predecessor, Jane Swift was well to the left of him and picked a Hispanic militant homosexual running mate... and let’s not forget pretty much every other rodent Governor in the nation of the past 40 years with few exceptions (such as DINO Ed King, who was the last Conservative Governor of MA. Of course, he later became a Republican after Dukakis beat him in the rodent primary of ‘82).

Lawyers press the envelope of the law ,including the supreme law of the land , our constitution . Prosecutors tend to view the constitution not as a citizen’s shield of protection from the government , but as a obstacle hindering the good government from shepherding the citizens .

I like Risch, he was a good Governor and his age will stop him from making the Senate a lifetime occupation. 2 terms is probably max for him as it should be.

During his brief stint as governor, he did lead the push for a modicum of property tax relief. Of course, as Eternal Vigilance already pointed out, he's also a Romeny supporter. Whether that's because of Romeny's religion or his policies, I dunno.

It’s a question of liberal accomplishment. Did Swift implement gay marriage, sign an assault weapons ban, and sign socialized medicine into law, complete with taxpayer-funded abortions? No, she didn’t. No Governor anywhere has done all of that in one term in office. Ever.

There is that rancher/veteranarian, Rex Rammell, who seems to have a personal grudge against Risch.
