AN AIRPORT suspended a Roman Catholic worker after a Muslim colleague protested about an image of Jesus pinned up on a staffroom wall.
Gareth Langmead, 40, was stunned to be sent home from Manchester airport after putting up the image of the Sacred Heart.
Bosses are said to have ordered the car parks supervisor to be escorted off the premises after the Muslim complained.
Mr Langmead was only reinstated three days later after an investigation found that his action was not intended to be malicious or provocative.
The row comes a year after BA check-in worker Nadia Eweida was suspended for wearing a cross at Heathrow. Yesterday friends and union representatives backed Mr Langmead.
One friend said: Hes really gutted about this. When he found the image in an office drawer, he thought it would be nice to pin it up. In the end he was treated like a criminal and walked off the premises. He wasnt trying to annoy anyone.
He is Christian and it is a Christian piece of art. What is wrong with that? Unison union official Glyn Platt said: Suspending him was an over-reaction this could have been dealt with informally.
It would have been more appropriate for someone to have had a quiet word with him, or to ask him to take the picture down if it caused any offence, rather than take any action. There are no guidelines on what should or should not be pinned on a wall.
It is understood that Mr Langmead found the picture while cleaning out an office. He felt unable to throw it in a bin because of its religious importance and could not take it home in case that was seen as theft.
It is understood the co-worker who complained alleged that hanging the picture was an act of provocation.
But the investigation ruled that Mr Langmead, of Atherton, near Wigan, had not meant to cause offence.
A Manchester airport spokes- man said yesterday: This investigation was concluded swiftly. The employee has returned to work with a clean record.
We have agreed with our airport chaplain that he and his team will work with the employees involved to foster a greater level of understanding of each others beliefs and how this applies to the workplace.
I thought the Muslims were supposed to revere Jesus as well, although they consider him a profit, not the Son of God.
Actions speak louder than words, and the complaint by the Muslim and the overreaction of the employer both show how far Western Civilization has fallen.
Opps, prophet, not profit. Mods, please fix before I get ragged for the idiot I obviously am. :-P
Don’t worry about it. The vocabulary police are sleeping.
Well, they do in their own way. The thing is, Islam prohibits people from creating any image of any prophet or religious figure. They consider crucifixes and most Christian art to be profane.
If you ever get the chance to visit any of the ancient Christian churches in the middle east, you’ll notice that the Muslims have chipped the faces off all the statues and paintings of Jesus. This is why.
The problem was with the “image”. They avoid depicting people in their art.
We should form a religion which is offended by beards and women with head coverings. Then what would the PC police do? We need to do something to show the stupidity of this stuff.
We are making a very serious mistake, moving in more Muslims into our midst. I honestly don’t have a quibble with them, but they act like they own the place, and it’s beginning to wear just a wee bit thin by now. They snap their fingers and long term citizens jump ten feet high.
What gives? This is simply idiotic.
Imagine going to another nation and making an ass out of yourself like these people seem pefectly willing to do.
Too many of them are proving themselves to be unable to assimilate.
So the persecution of Christians begins....
Should I have ended my post with a sarcasm disclaimer....? Or not?

That would be 'oops', not 'opps'...
(Sorry, couldn't resist!)
I wonder if the headline writer meant to raise the specter of a literal axing.
If one had actually occurred, who here would've been surprised?
There is very very very low tolerance for this crap in the UK amongst the 19-26 generation. I have seen YouTube videos of squads of young men in ski masks threatening to kick every Muslim out of the country their way if they continue to attack innocent people and force Islam and its way of life on them.
Muslims are begging for fights any way they can get one. They are pure attention whores.
It all goes to show how to get respect—murder thousands of people.
No we’re not.
This is the danger of liberalism.
By making people bend over backwards, by branding them racists if they object, by not letting such things happen gradually in the culture, all that happens is resentment and violence.
By forcing people to “accept” one another before they are ready to, all you do is create hard feelings and make the process longer.
Shows you how stupid people are; if this is true.
The great Lion, Britan, is not roaring anymore; rather squeaking.
Whatever do you mean? Certainly an American can go to Iran and demand that the Ayatollahs punish an airport worker for displaying something Islamic. I'm sure they are very accommodating to the sensibilities of people with other belief systems. Why they might even use a sharp blade on your neck instead of a dull one.

Mohammedans have a place to live and I don’t see how an argument can be made that they are trying to escape Islamic tyranny when they so eagerly try to apply the same doctrines in the country that was willing to accept them.
IF it were left to me, they would denounce Islam or stay right where they are. I am not sure how much there is left to doubt that Islamic culture is incompatible with Western Civilization.
They aren’t concerned with assimilating, their M.O is to bide their time until their numbers reach a certain threshold. They create enclaves of power and systematically purge the infidels until the land can be claimed for the Caliphate. I feel some European countries are at the brink at this moment and I am never sure they will do what is needed to turn it around.
We live in free societies and are very vulnerable, especially, when our own citizens favor and fight for the enemy. Christians Armenians, Christian Serbs and Persian Zoroastrians already know this but they had to learn the hard way. We ignore the hard lessons they learned at our own peril.
‘The great Lion, Britan, is not roaring anymore; rather squeaking.’
And the American Eagle washes it’s claws in muslim airport footbaths with bended head to show it’s dhimmitude.
What a load of nonsense - this is nothing to do with nation states and everything to do with private companies scared to death of being sued and labelled racist by the press. Get a grip!
I didn’t know the circus was in town......
Things are really out of whack in this country.
ping...
“This is the danger of liberalism.”
Bingo.
someone needs to take offense to the head gear the moos wear. “I see that turbin, if offends me that they are practicing their religion”
Their response was to have crucifixes tattooed on their foreheads.
I frankly don’t comprehend why any Christian would want to hang a picture or other image of the Lord Jesus. A.) We don’t know what He looks like and B.) It’s too close to violating the first and second of the Ten Commandments. Post Scripture testifying of Christ - that’s the ticket!
Actually, we do know what He looked like since there are ancient icons of Him.
And having such a picture does not violate any commandments as those dealt with idolatry, which is not the case here.
Unless you believe that they commandments forbid you from having any photographs of your loved ones, of course. Then you’d be at least consistent in your belief.
The private company in question may enact a policy against religious imagry in areas it controls, but if it did not have such a policy when the worker was suspended, the company should have told the Muslim, “Too bad!”
Was the co-worker projecting his own thoughts of provocation onto others?

“I honestly dont have a quibble with them”
You should, because they have a problem with you. They want to own your land and have you leave it. Or stay and be slave to them.
That is their goal.
Being nice to them won’t stop them.
We’re killing ourselves.

Jesus Saves.....Moses invests.
Europe has always had a resourceful streak.
And Muhammed just steals what others have built.
Don’t Muslims tell us that Jesus is respected in Islam?
EXERPT: "'We have agreed with our airport chaplain that he and his team will work with the employees involved to foster a greater level of understanding of each others beliefs and how this applies to the workplace.'"
I wonder if they have a religious authority in place for all religions? Me thinks not. Also, fostering a sense of understanding of lets assume they meant World Religions, is a bit different than being educated about world religioins. Of course, it all boils down to individual reactions, thoughts and adjustments.
Could you link to some? This is the first I've heard of first century Jesus carvings.
This investigation was concluded swiftly. The employee has returned to work with a clean record.”
And this is suuposed to make everything ok???!
I said "ancient", you said "first century".
Rhetorical games make for poor theology.
The oldest existing icon dates from the 6th Century and was based upon older icons that were destroyed during the iconoclast heresy.
No games - I honestly thought you meant the images were old enough to be legitimately that of Jesus. I have never heard the claim that later icon images were thought to be accurate depictions.
Could you at least link me to some 6th century images and/or an article explaining how they are trusted to be accurate likenesses of Christ? I’m intrigued.

How sad, to watch formerly Great Britain slide down the crapper to national suicide.
This pandering to the moon cult is beyond ridiculous.
