Good taste in wine... or gauche? I assume it should not be difficult to trace where and by whom these wines were bought? Many of these are numbered, or serialized.

I couldn't care less about the wine or the woodwinds. But now that Mr. Hsu's name has (surprisingly) resurfaced, how about we talk about some things? Like...

WHERE IS WINKLE PAW?

COURT APPEARANCE: Norman Hsu, 56, prepares to be taken into custody Friday on fraud charges at the San Mateo County Courthouse, where he later posted bail. The FBI has opened an investigation into Hsu’s campaign donations. (Robert Durell / Los Angeles Times)

The above is the picture and caption that appears with this storyinthe LATimes. "Properties" on the picture say that it was "created 10-11-07". Is this an old picture and old court date? If not, why did they allow him to post bail again? If he is out, we will never see him alive again and this case is over.

Saxophones signed by the former president have brought as much as $64,000 at recent charity auctions.

Interesting. Quid pro quo?

And about this comment from the LA Times:

It was unclear how Hsu acquired the saxophone. Howard Wolfson, a spokesman for Sen. Clinton's campaign, said Bill Clinton had signed many instruments that have been sold to benefit charities or party organizations.

***************************

From the AP article linked at post #21....

***********************EXCERPT*************************

Hsu bought the saxophone at a charitable auction for $26,000 in October 2005, a representative of the American Red Cross told The Wall Street Journal. President Clinton, who attended the auction, signed the instrument, which was donated by saxophone maker E.M. Winston.

The Journal reported that Clinton owns an E.M. Winston saxophone, given to him by the company's president, the late David Ginott.

Hsu, 56, was once a valued supporter of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, raising more than $1.2 million for her and other Democratic candidates in recent years.

...and all things Clinton.

"Well, knock me over with a straw!"

From 9/15 -
Clinton's campaign insists that Hsu fell through the cracks of a faulty computer search (though reporters checking the same database found records of a bankruptcy filing, multiple lawsuits and links to possible criminal cases).

And her campaign chairman - Terry McAuliffe, known for his methodical courtship of big-money sources for Bill and Hillary - is pleading ignorance, telling The Washington Post, "I don't know how [Hsu] became involved."

... several bottles of Penfolds Shiraz, an Australian wine, as the best and most expensive in his collection.

I assume that's the very famous Penfolds Grange and not just one of Penfolds more plebeian Shiraz offerings; if so, it is certainly possible that the bottles are worth quite a bit.

The Smoking Gun: Feds say Hand Over The Sax, Hsu
- - Prosecutors want ex-Democratic moneyman to forfeit Clinton horn

December 4, 2007 - - Federal prosecutors want disgraced Democratic moneyman Norman Hsu--who was named today in a 15-count fraud indictment--to forfeit a "saxophone autographed by a former President of the United States." The indictment, filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, does not name the former president, but Bill Clinton would seem a good bet considering Hsu's prior role as a chief fundraiser for Democratic presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton. The indictment, an excerpt of which you'll find below, notes that the valuable saxophone is located in a Soho apartment once occupied by the 56-year-old Hsu, who is alleged to have swindled $20 million from investors in a Ponzi scheme. Unless Hsu has more than one autographed saxophone, the instrument sought appears to be the one referred to in a recent Wall Street Journal story, which reported that Hsu once paid $26,000 at a Red Cross benefit for a Bill Clinton-signed horn. Government lawyers also want to seize "various bottles of wine and champagne" located in Hsu's Wooster Street home. (2 pages)

Norman Hsu had Expensive Wine, Bill Clinton Sax

NEW YORK, Oct. 11, 2007 (UPI) -- More than 180 bottles of wine and a Bill Clinton-signed saxophone were seized from the New York apartment of fundraiser Norman Hsu, federal authorities said. Hsu -- who raised more than $1.2 million for Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and other Democratic candidates over the past three years -- was keeping the pricey wine collection, the musical instrument and other expensive items at his apartment, The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday. The sax was believed to have been autographed by former President Clinton, the newspaper said.

The items were taken during a search following the disclosure that Hsu, a Hong Kong native, was wanted in connection with a 1991 theft case. He has been charged with leading a $60-million Ponzi scheme and violating election laws by paying associates to make donations in their names. Hsu's wine collection, which includes bottles of Chateau Lafite Rothschild and vintage Cristal champagne, has been valued by wine experts at up to $100,000. "I wish I had this collection," said Robert Yetman, a wine-industry consultant and professor at the University of California, Davis, Graduate School of Management. "It's a little showy, but nice."

Clinton Shrine Seized From Norman Hsu's Apartment

10.11.07: Federal agents searching the Manhattan apartment of Democratic fund-raiser Norman Hsu this week seized a saxophone autographed by President Clinton, along with about 200 bottles of fine wine and Champagne. Mr. Hsu purchased the instrument at an auction for $26,000 in October 2005, according to a representative of the American Red Cross. The auction was held during the centennial celebration for the charity's New York chapter, where the former President Bill Clinton was honored. E.M. Winston, the maker of the saxophone, donated the instrument. And President Clinton, who attended the event, signed it. Mr. Clinton owns an E.M. Winston saxophone that was given to him by the late David Ginott, the company's president. The saxophone purchase was part of an embrace of the Clintons that acquaintances said Mr. Hsu liked to display. He had a collection of photos on exhibit in his apartment, as he rose quickly to become a top supporter of Hillary Clinton and other Democrats, ultimately raising more than $1 million.

Less than a week before the Red Cross event, several of Hsu's donors gave Hillary Clinton at least $17,700. The gala must've left Hsu in a generally charitable mood, because over the next few days, he bundled nearly $14,000 for Ted Kennedy and the DNC.
- - See list of donors in the article. Norman Hsu criminal co-conspirators the Paw Family (Daly City, CA) et. al. “Hsu straw donors” are on the list.
