Policeman threatens to arrest boy for toy gun - UK
The Daily Telegraph ^ | 10/09/2007

Posted on 10/11/2007 3:22:09 PM PDT by Daniel Bliss

A policeman was criticised yesterday after he ordered an eight-year-old boy to smash up his toy gun – because it was an "imitation firearm".

The officer confronted Samuel England, of Pinehurst, Swindon, Wilts, as he played with the black and orange plastic toy outside his home. He told the boy to destroy the "weapon" or he would be arrested.

Samuel's stepfather, John Standen, 34, came to his aid but was warned it was an offence to have an imitation firearm in public.

The officer only left when Mr Standen had snapped the toy in half – leaving Samuel in tears. But he returned five minutes later to warn his stepsister Sophie, six, about riding her battery-powered Barbie car on the pavement.

Samuel's mother, Sarah, 30, said: "Samuel was so scared that he would be taken away. I had to explain to him that they can't do that."

Wiltshire Constabulary confirmed the incident took place, but refused to name the officer involved.

Since when was a plastic kid's toy an "imitation firearm" or a "weapon"?

It seems that the copper gets a rush when he enforces Britain's increasingly authoritarian gun laws on little kids. No surprises there then...

What makes you think they can't, Sarah?

Will the UK be renamed soon? It’s getting more and more like Oceania.

Scraping the bottom of the barrel for police officers in the UK. Pathetic.

It’s now also illegal to display an imitation firearm in public in Minneapolis.

Stuff out of Britain lately is beyond parody.

And if you read the UK boards they say typically British understated stuff about these absurd episodes, like "One has to contemplate whether this is the proper course of action".

You have to expect this sort of thing to happen when you fail to properly "de-Nazify" after WWII.

The Brits actually let these people vote ~ and Lord forbid that you raise a hand in objection to a sadomasochistic sexual deviant over there.

Has anyone tried to look for a toy gun for their kids lately at your local stores? I don’t mean the nerf kind that shoots color foam bullets or the water gun or the sci-fi one with all the flashing light and noise. I mean the M16, M4 machine gun look a like with the required orange painted tip. Our church sponsors a Halloween costume contest on a yearly basis, and last year, my 6 yrs. old son wanted to dress up as a soldier. I went to the local army surplus store and got him a nice camouflaged uniform. Painted his face and all. He was really stoked when I said, “Special Force.” Problem was, we went all over town and couldn’t find him a toy gun that looked like the real deal. He still won first place. We live in a community where there’s an Air Force Base as well as a Navy Base and a Coast Guard station with in a few miles of each other, and the majority of parishioners are military families. My son wasn’t the only dressed up soldier that night without a gun. This year, we’re ready as I bought one from the internet.

The workshop in my basement does wonder for my two boys. Maybe I should consider selling them on the internet.

I've made M16s, M79s, 50cal Brownings, bazookas, LAWs, and even a mortar.

Water pistol causes airport scare

A child's pink plastic water pistol caused an airport security scare.

The toy had to be registered as a firearm before the Devon girl and her family could board their holiday flight home from South Africa.

What allows her to think that?

Surprised the cop didn't threaten to arrest her for that while he was busy enforcing the rest of the rules.
