Newspaper Nightmare: Environmental Activists Block Ship Carrying -- Newsprint!
Editor and Publisher ^ | 10/13/07

THE HAGUE Greenpeace activists on Saturday blockaded a cargo ship they claimed was carrying newsprint made from trees felled in Canadian old growth forests.

The environmentalists said they were preventing the 560-foot ship Finnwood from unloading its paper cargo at Terneuzen port, 130 miles south of Amsterdam, and were daubing on its side a slogan calling for newspapers not to use paper made from old growth forests.

Hilde Stroot, campaign leader for Greenpeace Netherlands, said more than 1.7 million acres of Canadian forest — home to threatened species such as the lynx, wolf and caribou — are cleared each year.

"Huge areas of forest are being destroyed for newspapers, books and toilet tissue," Stroot said.

Greenpeace said the paper on board the ship was from Canadian forest products company Abitibi-Consolidated LLC and is used by all of the Netherlands' major newspaper publishers.

Abitibi did not immediately return an after hours call to its office in Montreal. The company's Web site said that its newsprint is made of up to 100 percent recycled paper, but Greenpeace claimed samples they have had tested contained up to 90 percent new wood fibers.

OK .. I'll play their silly game ... we destroy all this "old growth" paper ... maybe dump it in the ocean ... sign a pact to never, never, ever do it again, turn around and go process another batch of "new growth" trees and ... what has been accomplished?

A whole lot of paper mache' is glogging fish's gills ... twice as much forest is gone now, The lib papers that support the green whacko's are out of business and now we have another load of acceptable paper to ....

do what?

good Lord, what is so damn special about old growth vs new growth?

I mean these aren’t some remnant of Jurassic times that have some intrinsic value. They are trees.

They need to get French with these wackos.

Can’t these people just be jailed on valid charges? What’s their threshold of pain?

You got that right. The Canadian Forces have some new submarines picked up from Uncle Tony (Blair)’s Used Sub Shoppe for a cool 750 million or so, sinking these Greenpeace pukes would be a fine use for these new additions to the Canadian Navy.

And Stephen Harper is just the PM with the balls to do it.

"Huge areas of forest are being destroyed for newspapers, books and toilet tissue,"

Now THAT'S diversification! All along, I've been advocating that they clear-cut these nuisance forests and turn them into patio furniture. Who knew they could become such a wealth of other useful products?

A - They became envirowakos - same agenda, different name.

Whether the environmental issue is valid or not, the MSM depends on paper much more than the new media, and this is an area where they are vulnerable.

Anything bad for them is good for us.

I imagine one Mark-48 amidships would locate their threshold of pain satisfactorily.

Are they aware that oil and coal are also made from old growth forests?

And what is the magic age at which a tree goes from being a renewable resource to being an ancient appendage of the inner earth gods?

Should we be worried about old growth blueberries?

Save the environment, kill an environmentalist.

Environmentalists should only eat peace activists. Peace activists should burn environmentalists for fuel. And each should refuse to have children because people are the problem. We would then eliminate all problems withing 60 years.

Trees are a cash crop. They can be harvested and replanted. Environmentalists may as well start a ‘Save The Corn’ campaign. ‘Save The Cucumbers’? Would make as much common sense.

"Huge areas of forest are being destroyed for newspapers, books and toilet tissue," Stroot said.

Sounds like those people that use one sheet of toilet paper and finger-paints with the leftovers.

Well, the MSM does all they can to pimp for enviro-wackos.

Nice to see their spawn return the favor by cutting off the newspaper’s
oxygen supply (newsprint).

Hey MSM, you are being filed under “unintended consequences” and
“created a monster”.
