don’t agree with him, but he’s consistent on immigration.

Ok, I take your word on that. I thought he was against amnesty, but apparently, he is supporting it ("aspirations of citizenship" for illegals can be interpreted only in one way).

As for CFR, he doesn’t deny his original vote. He reasonably claims the law had unintended consequences, and he no longer supports it.

I don't buy that. You are either for free speech, or against it. Alternative explanations are he is A) flip-flopping, B) dumb (did not understand what he was voting for).

As I said, I will vote for any republican candidate in general elections, even McCain (although he is the only one I truly despise). It is not a good sign that Fred avoids voters in early primary states. His performance in major events has been lackluster (even in the major event hosted by the congressional republicans so I think this is a wise strategy for him).

Ah, yes.

“Here in New Hampshire, we expect politicians to suck our $%^&#. If they don’t, then we won’t vote for them. It isn’t the ideas, or the positions...unless the position is bent over in front of us.”

A lot of folks in the press feel the same way.

“This Michigan debate, watched by 53 voters during the afternoon when most folks are working, will be make or break for Thompson!”

For this AZ voter - I don’t trust Mitt or Rudy. Don’t care what they say - their position will change like Dole’s did as soon as the nomination is wrapped up. If either of them gets it, they’ll talk a lot different the following day!

McCain has too many loose screws.

Huckabee - OK on some stuff, but there are rumors that he is another compassionate conservative. No thanks, if that is true.

That pretty much leaves Fred. He’d have to be awful to be worse than his competitors!

Ditto that. Fred told everyone he would dance to his own tune. There is plenty of time and the MSM is not going to call all the shots. Politics is very intense business and it is good to take a couple of days...sharpen the speech, make good meetings with good Conservatives, tweak the strategy.

I have a great deal of faith in Fred and he will begin to break through all the ceilings very soon. Rudy is Rudy...Mitt is Mitt...and McCain is McCain. They can all burn up the sidewalk and it will not change the fact that they are all RINOS! We have had enought RINOS in this party.

Fred is the real thing folks...Thompson and Duncan Hunter definately works for me! Good Speed gentlemen!

"LOL! I knew someone would post that his failure to be very active is really a brilliant campaign strategy on his part"

Exactly, this is not strategy, it's flat-out incompetence and a sure way to lose.

Heh, heh. I thought you were serious until you got to the “cave” part. The thing about Fredheads is that no matter what Thompson does, they say it was the smart thing to do.

Like I’ve said before, he IS playing it smart—if he’s running for VP.

Skipping campaign events and insulting early primary state votes is always a great strategy. Way to go!

Insulting voters? What are they, 10 years old, getting their feelings hurt because the candidate doesn't come kissing their rings? I live in MA, and it's unlikely ANY of them will come here more than once, if at all, but I'm not getting my knickers in a twist about it.

As for his 'flip-flopping', on Campaign Finance Reform, he'd expressed misgivings as soon as it was passed, and again, the more it's been in use. He didn't suddenly develop his concerns on the campaign trail. He was always more against the disconnect between regular voters and government, as represented by the large campaign donations which he considered sometimes no different than bribery.

As for Immigration, he's never been for rounding up illegals and shipping them anywhere; he's been talking about his position on Immigration since he announced his possible campaign, and he hasn't changed his ideas since then.

What'ya got, three electoral votes up there?

This may be news to you, but NH is the most important (or 2nd) primary/caucus state. TX and TN are absolutely meaningless (if he was raising money there). Candidates who do not win either in Iowa or NH are pretty much finished. In theory, strong second in both states might survive and hope for a miracle later on. Most likely, the race is over after NH (e.g. if Romney or Guliani - or Fred - win both states).

If Fred wants to win and be seriously taken candidate, he should be campaigning in Iowa and NH. He should have a decent chance at least in Iowa. If he does not campaign there and continue insulting NH voters, he will pay dearly.

FNC “experts” are counting votes.

The talking heads today essentially called Thompsons camapaign dead and McCain’s campain on the upswing.

FNC’s personalities GLEEFULLY reported Thompsons 10% 4th place in a New Hampsire poll.

It doesn’t seem that Fred Thompson has the stamina or desire to put in the 24/7 campaigning that is necessary in the Primaries.

Certainly necessary to campaign against Her Heinous.

Sad, but this article seems to indicate a weak candidate. That would be terrible in November ‘08.

"He can tell Putin to log onto “www.presidentthompson.com” to see his foreign policy positions, and he can send mass computer-generated e-mails to the members of Congress when it comes time to twist arms for various legislation."

Heh heh. Good one!

Thanks to this leftist leak of FNC I have started to surf over to CNN and MSNBC a bit.

Glen Beck has proven to be far more interesting that OReily, who has been unwatchable for years.

Fox and Friends idiocy leaves only AM morning radio or C-Span.

FNC has written off thompson.

They don’t want him to win either which helps them write articles like this.

He reasonably claims the law had unintended consequences

Since the obvious downsides of M-F were easily foreseeable, this excuse reflects a serious lack of judgment and insight on Thompson's part. Thanks for pointing it out.

It will be interesting to see if McCain can have a resurgence.

FWIW, I think McCain will run a strong second here in NH.

It’s not for you and I or even FoxNews to decide how Thompson should run his campaign. That being said, FoxNews is better than CNN, but it’s still no paragon of virtue.

Just today it opened up discussion of the Sanchez comments from a few days ago saying (paraphrased), “Sanchez criticizes U.S. policy in Iraq, we’ll be right back.” I turned the station.

FoxNews has had enough time to do a better workup on that topic than that. Even I know better than to lead with that misleading trailer.

We’re probably pretty much on the same side so don’t let my take on it bother you.

Take care.
