Democrats don’t have a history of defending any attacks on Christians.

Where was Democrat President T.W.Wilson when genocides were happening? Where was Democrat President F.D.Roosevelt when genocides were happening?

Since this incident occurred 90 years ago, under a different Turkish government and is documented in most history books, I fail to see what this accomplishes.

It is, IMO, a political ploy to undermine what progress has been made in Iraq. How can the “war is lost” statements be justified if there is actually progress being made.

I hope I am wrong, but if I’m not..it sickens me.

Turkey is about to attack Northern Iraq and we are iasking them not to.

This comes at a very bad time

Yes the Turks have been threatening to move in and occupy Kurdish territory. Why not. They like their oil. They already occupy a third of the Kurdish homeland. Why not let them go and massacre a whole lot of Kurds, because as Hitler once remarked before killing the Jews, "who remembers the Turkish genocide of the Armenians."

We get no help from the Turks in our war against Islamic Terrorists. The feelings in Turkey have become more anti American since the war. The only help we get is access for which we pay them. The Turks are Muslims first. We may as well condemn them. Their claim to secular society is false. Christians are still an inferior class in Turkey. If a Congressional statement provokes them to war, then they truly are not ready to join the civilized world.

It was might have been genocide but Turkey and the world has come a long way in 102 years, not the least of which is Turkey is a necessary and very valuable ally in NATO and the UN.

Turks fought valiantly in Korea on our side (the Chinese and NK were scared of them) and we ran intelligence missions from Turkey throughout the cold war. Turkey sitting on the Black Sea and controlling the straights kept the Soviet Union from using it as a private Mediterranean military pond.

They are rabidly anti communist and their military has had close ties with ours for decades. The resolution was s stupid, deliberate move on the part of a selfish democrat congress done completely to ruin our efforts on the war on terror.

Turkey has held itself in control about the cross border raids and infiltration from the PKK. This includes the shipment of drugs which is one of the PKK finance methods.

This did not start with the recent war in Iraq but got worse when we set the “No Fly Zone” in northern Iraq. IIRC we gave them assurances we would keep the PKK somewhat under control.

The PKK claims areas of Turkey as part of their Kurdish homeland.

Right you are, they are no ally to the USA. Whatever we have received from them in the way of use of air bases, etc., they were payed well for the right.

We seem to forget they sent the 4th ID packing and totally changed the war strategy already. It kept the Sunni triangle from being pacified in a more timely manner and likely cost some marines their lives when they had to clear the area later.

I think Turkey is in a snit over nothing anyway, HR 106 was sent to committee for review and more than likely will come out quite differently than it went in. I don’t blame them I wouldn’t even want it mentioned had I murdered 1.5 million Christians. America is condemned every other day by one nation or the other and we don’t start threatening that country because we don’t agree with their condemnations.

Turkey can’t do anymore to hurt our efforts in Iraq than they already have. They can change the logistics, make them more difficult, but that’s it. If they don’t want the business, someone else will. It will make logistics more difficult but, although more difficult, the job will get done, one way or the other.

As far as Turkey invading the Kurds, let them. If they attack the Kurds they will quickly lose their taste for war. US and Iraqi diplomats need to get on this and assure Turkey they are going to dissolve the PKK. You don’t need 160 k troops on the border to bring the PKK to justice or capture or kill them. I smell a rat, a genocidal, land-hungry Turkish rat.

The timing is everything on this one. Those who are proposing this, while having some definite sympathy for the Armenians and their plight, are being used by those who wish to hurt the policies of our CinC. I’m no big fan of the Turks, especially since they denied passage through their country of our 4ID, which I believe has led to much of the chaos that is going on in Iraq at this very moment. The fact of the matter is, however, that right now, we need the Turks to, if not actively help us, to at least passively do so. We need their country for our logistical train, and pissing them off right now will not help matters any. Do I think they committed genocide? Yes, I do. Do I like it when Europeans throw slavery and our treatment of the Native Americans in my face? No,I don’t! This whole matter has been turned into a political tool to hamstring this administration’s long term policy for the region. The dim controlled congress doesn’t have the guts to cut funding, which is their only true option to stop this War in an up front fashion , so they are trying to use a back door method, by denying our troops the support necessary to keep operations flowing in the North. This short sited policy decision for what they hope to be a means to grab power, has proven the dims to be what they are: traitors. This act will get a lot of people killed, both our allies and our own .

Well worded and succinct. “but he’s our bastard, and the alternative is worse. “

Saddly it is a fact of life when dealing with muslim countries.

From what IRC neither were the Armenians. They aren't all angels now.

This belongs in the history books, not in congress. It’s a backhanded RAT attempt to sabatoge our efforts in the ME.

Look, it was genocide; but beating up and humiliating our allies

Does that mean we should also stop calling the Holocaust in Germany, a genocide? Or is it only Islamic genocides that we keep silent about?

Th Holocaust occured over 50 years ago, under a different German government. Do you also fail to see the importance of officially condemning it?

Republicans also voted for the measure. And most Armenian-Americans - who very much want this recognition passed - are Republicans.

It was might have been genocide but Turkey and the world has come a long way

So has Germany, but that doesn't mean we should stop remembering the Holocaust. For consistency sake - and humanity's sake - remembering the Armenian genocide is another way of saying, "never again."

“If a bunch of turks can’t handle the fact they committed genocide then they are no ally.

That statement ignores several facts and occurrences of the last 107 years and particularly of the cold war period and modern history.

You may want to read up on world history as pertains to Turkey and their valuable relationship with us, NATO, and the U.N.

For example, did you know they fought beside our troops in N.K.? Our troops respected them, the Chinese and N.K. troops feared them, and they were critical to the U.N. successes there. Did you know their military was important to holding the Warsaw pact in check during the cold war?

But as I mentioned, their history is more than that and anyone who pays attention, relationships in the Middle East and with islamic counties are very complicated.

The whole reason for the democrat’s resolution was directly to stir up trouble for our troops and our countries military.

Can you see that at all?

We (collectively, the U.S. public) complain about Iran “helping” the Iraqi dissidents while conveniently forgetting that we gave a great deal of aid and arms to the Taliban to use against the Russians. This is more of the same: bitching about what the Turks did 90 years ago while forgetting what we did to the American Indians 150 years ago. “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”

Congratulations - your little rant has to be one of the most incoherent I have read here on FR. First of all the Taliban as such was not in power at the time of the Russian conflict (yes many moved into the ranks of the Taliban later)

The Dems brought this resolution up so they are the ones "bitching" with the intent to cut off supplies to our troops, not right some past wrong. And as another Freeper stated, the "American Indians" were far from blameless in a time in the world where populations were still being conquered all over the world.

When it comes to screen names yours really is truth in advertising.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Nazi regime that committed the atrocities has been condemned, as they should have been. Is modern Germany receiving censure in our legislature for those acts?

Modern Turkey has been an ally in many instances. Even if their current cooperation is “purchased”..that is not much different than many of our allies.
