“Romney appears too ready for prime time , which will be his undoing . Try hards like Romney don’t sit well with people when it comes nomination time . People see through it , like I eventually did .”

Me too... Though I would still pull the lever for him in the general, something I can’t say for Rudy.

How did this Rudy thread turn into a Romney thread anyway? Well, however it happened, I have to say I’m a little suspicious of someone who spends so many of their own millions in pursuit of a job that only pays half a million dollars a year.

What’s the angle? Crazy as Perot was, he was spending his money because he wanted to change things. Unlikely as Forbes was, he was spending his money because he actually wanted to change things. What’s Romney’s angle? What does he get out of this? What’s he trying to accomplish? I’ve heard not one new idea out of him, which leads me to believe he sees the Presidency as a stepping stone to future business deals when his 4 years are up.

Like I said, I’d vote for him over Hillary. But while Rudy is the most liberal Republican, Romney is the fakest.

Have you ever listened to Hillary speak? Thompson sounds friendly and personable. Hillary is shrill and phony. Thompson would clean her clock. Thompson has a folksy style which is a strong contrast to the combative Giuliani or the slick Romney.

I read that explanation by Thompson which you posted. He admits that Clinton committed perjury and then declines to remove him from office because of technical legal issues, which he earlier acknowledged did not bind the Senate. I am sorry, but Thompson is not displaying legal brilliance in this argument. You are wrong when you say that he did not believe the count was proven. He clearly states in that argument that Clinton committed perjury. Rather he argues that the charge as written was not specific enough in a legal sense. Since he also acknowledges that the Senate is not bound by standard legal rules in making its decision, his excuse for his vote is disingenuous to say the least.

I do acknowledge that Thompson voted to remove Clinton from office on the count of obstructing justice, however, he seems to believe that Clinton obstructed justice primarily by committing perjury, on which count he voted not to remove Clinton from office. This may pass muster to Harriet Myers, but most people would find this to be spurious reasoning.

Nevertheless, I still believe he is the best hope for conservatives to obtain the presidency.
