Craig Says He Was Entrapped in Sex Sting (tonight on Dateline)
The Washington Post ^ | Oct 16, 2007 | MATTHEW DALY, AP

Posted on 10/16/2007 7:48:18 PM PDT by RDTF

WASHINGTON -- Idaho Sen. Larry Craig said he was entrapped in a sex sting at an airport men's room and was not aware of the bathroom's reputation as a spot to cruise for gay sex. "Well, I certainly am now," Craig told NBC's Matt Lauer in an interview aired Tuesday night.

"Were you prior?" Lauer asked.

"Not at all," Craig responded. "I go to bathrooms to use bathrooms."

Craig said it was a "tough call" when he decided not to tell his wife or children about the arrest.

"I didn't want to embarrass my wife, my kids, Idaho and my friends," Craig said. "I should have told my wife. I should have told my kids. And most importantly, I should have told counsel."

Suzanne Craig said that when her husband told her the story was about to break, "I felt like the floor was falling out from under me. And I felt almost like I was going down a drain for a few moments."

-snip-

Craig, 62, says he is not gay, and in the NBC interview, he and his wife said their marriage was based on love. Asked by Lauer whether theirs was a marriage of convenience to cover "a gay lifestyle," Suzanne Craig responded, "I would never do that. ... That's almost like selling your soul for something

-snip-

Craig also discussed his relationship with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Craig was Senate liaison for Romney's campaign, a post he abandoned when the scandal became known. Romney called Craig's conduct "disappointing and disgraceful" and immediately dropped Craig when the guilty plea was revealed.

"I was very proud of my association with Mitt Romney," Craig said. "And he not only threw me under his campaign bus, he backed up and ran over me again."

I kept thinking ‘his poor wife is clueless’ but who knows.

I did think so, but I’m seriously wondering how ‘clueless’ she is.

But do you go out of your way to go to a different airport concourse to use the bathroom?

Let’s say for argument’s sake you are right...Even if given the greatest benefit of the doubt, as a congressman the numbskull knows all about his right to an atty and should know his protection under the constitution. Innocent but pleading guilty (with no lawyer) to save embarrassment is just not feasible. He is guilty by incompetent stupidity alone.

ever try to catch a coyote ? you can’t do it...too weily.

but let one coyote in the pack get killed say by a car or truck or human means, and the pack gets temporarily discombobulated, big time. They wander aimlessly and are easy to catch or kill..........because they have order and predictable manners. If Craig ain’t gay at all as I believe,
he was wide spreadin and was hit on......it probabally hit him like that coyote and that truck............instant and stupid discombobulation...........

that’s my story and I’m sticking to it til better “proof” is as real as Rush.

From what I saw, he (basically) says the cop a liar, but never really says it was entrapment. Did you hear him say that?

I haven’t paid strict attention, sorry. He did strongly imply the cop was lying. And, of course, Larry’s telling the truth re the toilet paper on his shoe. His wife looks so sad and hurt.

I’ll try to pay closer attention....:)

Why won’t he leave? I thought he was a loyal Republican and liked Bush.

Immature Toilet Humor Ping!

To be added to this ping list just make some stupid bathroom humor innuendo that has nothing to do with Larry Craig.

Craig really blew it. He threw his life down the toilet. The only way he can resurrect his career is to suck it up, swallow his pride, get on his knees and ask for forgiveness.

Of course he's not gay, he's just been repeatedly accused of or questioned about it since 1982.

Oh, and his marriage at about age 37, which happened right after he was accused of approaching a congressional page was just a coincidence. Duh.

I’m watching this Dateline show tonight and thought I’d check over here to see what folks were saying.

I’m inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt as well. Just imagine how it would feel to have everyone trying and convicting you for something you didn’t do?

If on the other hand he is guilty of the charges brought against him, I would have a problem with him lying about it, just come out and cop to it. The honesty factor is key to me.

If he is gay, I just can’t get too worked up about it. I care about the way he votes on the issues.

I’ve never been exactly sure of what happened in Craig’s case. If all he did was tap his foot, then I can see the misunderstanding. But if he actually was passing his hand into the other guy’s stall that is a different story. The whole thing is just so bizarre. Who in the world would associate a stinky toilet with sex? The degeneracy of the homosexual lifestyle boggles the mind.

one thing I remember Lauer saying to him in this interview (that I hadn’t heard prior) was that the cop said Craig looked into the stall he was in, through the door crack, so close that he could see the color of his eyes. Then waited for the one next to him to open up and went into it and started the gay tap etc thing. Lauer said ‘when I am looking for an empty stall I look for feet’ and Craig said he does both...

"Not at all," Craig responded. "I go to bathrooms to use bathrooms."

This is part of the problem, the man is STILL lying through his teeth.

I can't believe that as a frequent flyer on Northwest, and a memeber of the Senate, that he isn't a member of their WorldClub, which he had to walk past to get to the public restroom.

Contrast a pleasantly appointed, uncrowded, spacious, well maintained restroom with fresh individual towels and complimentary colognes with a stinking public restroom, next door to the WorldClub, which was so crowded Craig had to wait several minutes for a stall.

Pardon the pun - but it doesn't pass the smell test...

You're right. He has always taken a wide stance on many important issues. He's the kind of Senator that brings men together. He's a uniter, not a divider.
