Today, Governor Mitt Romney called for the US to pull out of the UN Human Rights Council. According to the AP:
"The United Nations has been an extraordinary failure of late," Romney said in response to a question at a pancake house along the coast of early voting South Carolina. "We should withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council."
Turns out that we dont actually have a seat on the Human Rights Council though:
Actually, the United States doesnt have a seat on the human rights council, which it has been boycotting.
With that kind of knowledge, Romney may need to call in the lawyers after all
It also turns out that he was just trying to keep up with the Joneses:
Romney was sharing the political attention in this state with GOP rival John McCain, who is on his second consecutive day of campaigning here.
McCain, in an interview with The Associated Press on Tuesday, accused both Russia and China of causing gridlock in the U.N. Security Council and hindering the world bodys ability to sanction Iran or address pressing matters in Darfur, Burma and other trouble spots.
Difference was
John McCain knew what he was talking about.
Forgot to talk to his attorney's again!
Mittwitts. They're just stuck on stupid.

Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom later clarified the remarks.
“The governor believes we ought to withdraw completely from the U.N. Human Rights Council, and that means ending our financial support in addition to not seeking a seat on the council,” Fehrnstrom said. “We should not legitimize the council, either with financial or diplomatic support.”
When is the brilliant JRochelle going to show up?
How much money does the United States give the UN Human Rights Council???
Uh-ohs!
Oh Lord you are spinning.
We all know what Mitt meant. He meant what he said.
LOL you make me laugh.
Are we seeking a seat on the council?
” later clarified the remarks.”
Good that Mitt has damage control experts handy, like Kerry did. He’s an excellent manager and picks his staf well!
er, what Romney meant to say was....
Listen to this actual video of a speech and the response at the UN to it by the HRC stating that anyone who speaks out in this way will be punished for speaking out.

Then tell me that you are not appalled.
I know what the HRC is.
Did they not have Sudan or some other awful country on that council recently?
And I did know we were not on it.
Well, so? Considering who does get on, it’s a joke anyway.
LOL!
In your opinion, do WE have a viable candidate?
If not, do you see CWII on the horizon?
I hope I'm an alarmist.

Fred Thompson.
Who is spinning? No, I think it was you who didn’t like the reaction this received the other evening.
Further, the United States has not officially withdrawn itself from the Council nomination process. This has been an annual event. Koffi Annan has taken an active part in trying to convince the US to rejoin the council—a move that has twice been rejected, though funding continued.
I posted as much on the original thread.
Gadaffi To Head Human Rights Body
Updated: 08:31, Monday August 19, 2002
Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi is to head an international watchdog on human rights.
Libya is to be elected chair of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights - despite its links with terrorism and torture.
The move sparked a storm of controversy as it emerged British officials did nothing to block the appointment.
