Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom later clarified the remarks.
“The governor believes we ought to withdraw completely from the U.N. Human Rights Council, and that means ending our financial support in addition to not seeking a seat on the council,” Fehrnstrom said. “We should not legitimize the council, either with financial or diplomatic support.”

Do you want to know how ridiculous and vile the UN HRC is?
Listen to this actual video of a speech and the response at the UN to it by the HRC stating that anyone who speaks out in this way will be punished for speaking out.

Then tell me that you are not appalled.

I know what the HRC is.
Did they not have Sudan or some other awful country on that council recently?
And I did know we were not on it.

Good evening. I hope you are well.
In your opinion, do WE have a viable candidate?
If not, do you see CWII on the horizon?
I hope I'm an alarmist.

Who is spinning? No, I think it was you who didn’t like the reaction this received the other evening.
Further, the United States has not officially withdrawn itself from the Council nomination process. This has been an annual event. Koffi Annan has taken an active part in trying to convince the US to rejoin the council—a move that has twice been rejected, though funding continued.
I posted as much on the original thread.

Gadaffi To Head Human Rights Body
Updated: 08:31, Monday August 19, 2002
Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi is to head an international watchdog on human rights.
Libya is to be elected chair of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights - despite its links with terrorism and torture.
The move sparked a storm of controversy as it emerged British officials did nothing to block the appointment.
